You replaced the executable file with the one included to bypass activation?

If so, just put the registration number in and press ok. After I did that I got a 3000 hr "license". Still useless with the cable drivers but I'm looking into sourcing a Windows XP laptop just for this.

I do have a really old laptop w/ Windows XP. I may have to just use it instead.

With what drivers?

Seems everyone is using the cable from China...I gotta say, I'd rather not order from China. Any US sources for the cable?

Would this cable work?
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/OBD2-Diagnostic-Cable-KKL409-1-VAG-COM/dp/B002WIN8VQ"]OBD2 OBD II Diagnostic USB Cable For KKL409.1 VAG-COM 409 : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

Apologies, but I'm a noob when it comes to OBD2 stuff.

Cheap ebay cable works fine. I've been using this nearly since I got the car last July. All my laptops are win7 64bit so I just run xp mode and install the software in the vm. You can use any vm software, and then just find a copy of win xp if you don't already have one.

Has to be a mini-vci j2534 cable.

Mind posting a link to a compatible cable?

Ebay search for the above.

The ARM Processor is 32 bits on the MINI VCI 16Pin J2534 Cable

If I understand it correctly, no software fix will make the J2534\USB cable connector work on 64 bit. The hardware processor (the big central black chip welded onto the J2534 board) is 32 bit. :slap:

So, I doubt that there will be a 64 bit drivers for that hardware. Please correct me if my understanding is inaccurate - thanks. :bonk:

I would imagine that you could run 32-bit Windows XP in a virtual machine to make it work, or maybe even run the program in XP compatibility mode. I haven't tried either method though, so this is only a guess.

Yes of course, the VM option works.

My point was that waiting for a 64 bit software to work on the 32 bit ARM processor that is embedded onto the hardware is very doubtful.

The hurdle is the 32 bit hardware not the lack of a 64 bit software.

I don't believe the hardware is at all the hurdle as most 32 bit software will run fine on a 64 bit OS. The software will not run on a 32 bit version of Windows 7. So once again it's a fault of the mini vci drivers not being compatible with a modern OS (32 bit or 64 bit). There hasn't been an update for the antiquated drivers even though the Techstream software has been updated to work with modern operating systems.

This goes to show the mini vci was just a workaround from the beginning. As the actual hardware required to run the software, that the dealers use, is several thousand dollars.

So yes, a VM running XP will work but that wasn't the reason this thread was created as it ran on XP using older versions.

That's not how it works. The size of the processor's bus will not impact the ability of the two of them to talk to each other. Your mouse, for example, probably has an 8-bit micro, and it works with your 64-bit computer just fine. A 64-bit driver just means a driver that's designed to work on a 64-bit platform.
