Will this be better than the 2010 Mazdaspeed3

Hey everyone, i was waiting for this car for a while and i don't know when it will come out or if it will even go into production.

I've just sold my 1989 Toyota Supra TT and i'm currently driving a beater for the winter but i am planning to buy a new car this April.

I was looking into buying the new 2010 Mazdaspeed 3, should i or do u guys think this will be better then the speed3.

I don't know what to do, i don't want to have the speed3 then knowing the ft-86 kills it.

i have some questions for you:

do you need the car to be practical?
do you care if it's turbo or n/a?
do you prefer RWD or FWD?

its a totally different kind of car. The speed3 is excellent for daily practicality, however it has torque steer out the ass, even with all the torque limiting mazda did in the first few gears. The FT86 wil have much less room, especially the back seat/trunk storage areas. I guess what it comes down to is your needs in a sporty car. Practical hothatch vs. lightweight rwd coupe

if you like men then get the mazda. but if you like big o boobies then go for the ft86. haha jk

I lol'd so loud I woke up my roomate.

But they're right, the mazdaspeed3 is like the total opposite as far as fun cars go.

IMO the ft86 will be THE car to get. The mazda is forgettable and if you want practicality and performance I'd get a used sti in that price range anyway.

Or better yet a swapped '98-'01 2.5RS. Avoid the terrible insurance prices

...get in the accident & there goes your $15k swap. Cuz insurance does not cover for the swapped parts (unless you wanna pay more on your insurance).

I have driven Speed3 before and Speed3 perform really well. To be honest, it was better than stock WRX. Also Speed3's HP/TQ was close or better than stock WRX. Speed3 HP: 263 @ 5500 RPM / TQ: 280 @ 3000 RPM. While WRX HP: 265 @ 6000 RPM / TQ: 244 @ 4000 RPM. Haven't driven new STI, but my friend has ridiculously tuned STI ('04), so can't really compare with Speed3.

Like someone has said before Speed3 is practical car. It can be use as nice DD car and once a while you can drop in the track and drive back without problem. While FT86c is light weight NA car that I'm pretty sure I can say that "FT86c gonna be Fun car to drive around" even though it's still in a concept.

If you can't wait til FT86c to come out, go for Speed3. Just for me, I couldn't like the Speed3's face. Every time I look at it, it makes me laugh.

Now it poses the question of will this be better than the Ford Fiesta with the 1.6L ecoboost or better than the 2L ecoboost they plan on using later on down the road.

1.6 = 180bhp 170ftlb trq
2.0 = 240bhp 220ftlb trq

It already only weighs...2400lb's

Limited slip + light weight turbo hatch = omg super fun.

For the OP...Mazda SPEED3 would be nice, but the fiesta should be almost as practical. Its a honda fit on steroids. The reviews say it handles better out of the box than a fit and thats without the sport suspension. Ford has come a long way!

Ohh and Ford shares many of its platforms with mazda as you may already know

MtnDrvr86 01-31-2010 02:30 PM

The fiesta is much smaller, and they havnt offically announced the ecoboost fiesta for US yet, as far as im aware of anyways. For simialr size hatch, the 2012 focus is much better. Again the 2l ecoboost in that or hopefully and rs/st combo would be awsome. I cant remember which one but 1 of them had 300 hp and an awsome "revoknuckle" lsd

Bochet 02-01-2010 12:05 PM

Focus RS which we are not forecast to get has the revoknuckle and 300HP turbo I5.

FT and MS3 are completely different cars. MS3 is probably going to be faster in a straight line and is more practical. FT being RWD and lighter should be the better driver's car (whatever that means).

There is no way to tell how a car is actually going to drive just by looking at stats. We can make educated guesses based on information we have for similar vehicles but those are still just assumptions.

All of the MS3 cars are great drivers just pick up a used one and when the FT-86 comes out go test drive one. No need to wait on a car that's two years away, that may or may not be everything you hope it will be, when you could be enjoying a MS3 now. When the FT does finally hit our shores, go test drive it, then wait a year for all of the bugs to be worked out and trade in your MS3.

There's always going to be something better coming out just around the corner. After the FT-86 drops in 2012 there will be a TRD/STi model released later, and then the mid cycle refresh or the 2nd gen FT. You can't wait forever.

If you're always waiting for the next great gotta have it car you'll always be "currently driving a beater for the winter but...planning to buy a new car."

If there's a next gen right around the corner. Last Impreza coupe was 01 (in US) and took em over 10 yr to make coupe again. Yeah, they still made Impreza, but they're all SEDANS.

but I do agree that, can't wait forever. One Q is if he has enough $$$$ to buy use MS3 & trade in to buy the FT86c when the time comes.

Fiesta, MS3 = FWD.

RWD > FWD

The mazda 3 and the focus share the same platform.
