Swap out OEM clutch, OEM synchros/gearbox
 

Hey guys, as of now I have a 2013 BRZ, 05 3 series and a 02 RAV4. Possibly looking to sell the rav4 and the 3 series and buying a FRS as my beater car and having my BRZ as the modified garage queen car. So not sure whether i want to lease or finance the FRS but, if i do lease i was just thinking out of the ordinary and is it possible to swap clutches, gearbox and synchronizes. You know, put a brand new clutch and gearbox on the BRZ and have the slightly used one on the FRS, not saying I beat the BRZ up and now needs to be replaced thats not the story at all, just cleared 1500miles on the car and babied it for the first 1500miles. Just wouldn't be a bad idea to have a brand new clutch, etc. once again. What do you guys think about this and if it is possible what do you think labor would normally run? Thanks!

All this for a clutch with only 1500mi? (I know that's not your point, but that is the only thing you emphasized on.)

1500 miles on a clutch is nothing unless you REALLY ride that clutch. I had over 75k on my tC clutch and still gripped like a champ.

I see what you guys are saying, i just figured if I can have my synchronizes, clutch, gearbox back to brand new why not, you know?

I guess it also depends on what you want to do to the BRZ. Replace the stock clutch around $400 and $400 labor. Atleast thats what everyone wants around Denver. You could install a more aggressive clutch 600-800 if you were going FI. Depends on what kit you go with, reading other threads the stock clutch handle around 280 ft lb before slipping.

Actually 210ftlb of tq. Save your money for other mods.

Seems a daft idea. The cost to swap is likely to be similar/more than just replacing a clutch. The syncros are not something that wears quickly so you'll gain nothing by doing those. You'll just be doubling the cost should you ever need to replace a clutch in the future.

Why stop there? Why not a new engine?

If you want to have a spare set of new clutch/synchros/gears laying around there are cheaper ways of doing it than buying a new car.

Just swap license plates and badges. NEW CAR!

Seriously the labor of the things your thinking about are insane. Just forget it. It's a horrible idea.

Whole lot of effort for very minimal result. Keep the clutch. It's practically brand new.

If you are going to modify one or the other, and have both to choose from, I would choose the FR-S purely for the fact it has less bells and whistles and weighs slightly less. Keep the BRZ with all its creature comforts as your DD.

the syncro's are inside the transmission btw.

I can only imagine you are asking this question because you buggered quite a few shifts? Otherwise i just don't see the point at all.
