Strange spot in paint

1 Attachment(s)
I noticed this line on the side of the car just now which is followed by a lighter patch of paint below it. No clue where it came from. Mever used any harsh compounds or anything and i dont think that spot was ever even polished. Just has a coat of poli-seal on it. Could it just be that the poli seal just set in bad in that spot? Might try to polish that area but not sure what really to do with it

I wiped down that spot so its easier to see

I would guess someone sideswiped your car while it was parked. That or else you got keyed with something other than a key.

I thought that at first too but if u look close, the paint under the line looks like a lighter shade of blue and theres no actual scatch or anything. Maybe its just an illusion? Losing my mind? I dunno. Lol ill have to check it out in more direct light

pretty sure a nice quick polishing should fix that.

Cheers,
GREG

i tried some polish on my griots polisher but it doesn't seem to make any difference. it's only noticeable in bright light. not sure what would've caused it. don't remember seeing it before. it almost looks like something spilled on it and stained the paint

sorry about that.

anyway you can get a few more shots of the trouble spots?

If the clear coat is intact and you can't buff it out it is more likely to be a factory defect in the base coat underneath. You may not have seen it before if the light wasn't just right or you didn't view it at the perfect angle. I've seen this on a lot of newer cars, typically domestics in bright colors with a lot of metalflake or pearlized finishes. Looks like the paint gun sputtered leaving out some of the base coat. Usually picked up on the line in QA, sometimes they miss for the same reason you never saw it until now.

Just a possibility... I've been detailing my Mustang for years and I'm still finding new places where there are aberrations in the paint.

so i was at a big meet this afternoon and i'm pretty sure it's just something reflecting in that spot making it look like a defect as i was able to see the same thing on a few other cars. I'm going to assume it's just a reflection, of what i dont know but who knows :iono:
