Best thing to do for a little hp gain
Hello, i just got myself a FR-S 2013 and if i would want to have a little more fun, what increases power if i would put 3-4K in the car..

Great question. Someone should make a forum dedicated to getting more HP out of these cars.

What do you want to do with the car? $3~4k could get you a lot parts. Minor improvements can be had for waaay less, but again that depends on your goals.
EX: Drop in filter, inlet tube, and crank pulley will set you back < $300 and give you a noticeable increase in pep. Do a search as people have asked around this topic several times before. Also: don't forget to invest in some good oils for the engine / trans / rear. |
EcuTek tune - ~$1000.00 (e85)
EL Header - ~$800.00 Overpipe - ~ $300.00 Front Pipe - ~ $300.00 Cat-back - ~ $800.00 CAI - ~ $350.00 Total - ~$3500.00 This setup has been proven to get an FRS just over 200whp. You don't have the budget for a proper turbo or supercharger setup. Nitrous maybe but that comes with other, more long-term, residual costs. There is a TON of information in this section alone on these various mods and their respective manufactures with dyno results and everything. All you need to do is, :search: Scott |
Where do you want the additional power? Increasing power mostly in the 3000-4000 rpm torque dip area is a different approach to increasing maximum horsepower. Looking for power everywhere is another approach all together. There are other considerations with respect to noise and driveability.

Innovate is working on a supercharger that's all bolt on with no intercooler for a little over 3k. Should be out soon the last I heard they have stated production already. It will put out just a little over 200whp

In order of my preference of cost and power gains:
Drop in Filter ~$40 (makes a hair less power compared to a full intake) Pulley <$100 UEL Headers $600-1000 (for torque dip in conjunction with tune) Tune $1k Overpipe/Frontpipe with HFC~600 Resonated Catback ~600-800 Don't underestimate tires even thou it wont give power. The car was made to handle, which translates to fun as well. EDIT: ideally you'd want to do the full exhaust with tune, but if funds are limited I'd get headers and tune together. |

i hardly ever see anyone mention a lighter driveshaft. same effect as the light weight pulley. any problems with this? i had one in my old car (3000gt VR4) and there was a much noticeable difference.

3-4K in Hookers and blow in your car will be a little more fun.
|
for 3-4k, I/H/E + tune
