Only 500 BRZ for Canada (2013)
There was a review of the BRZ in last Saturday's wheels section of the Toronto Star and the reviewer claimed only 500 BRZ for Canada...
Any truth to that? |
That sounds unlikely. That would mean every dealership can only sell like 5 or 10 BRZs for the year lol (just a guess on the #).

i wouldn't disagree with that claim,
the FRS alone were pretty much sold out when they hit the market, with people placed on 4-5month long waiting lists. factor in that there is an inherit limited demand, meaning that anyone not looking for a small, 2 door, RWD car is not going to magically start looking for one. Then given the original FRS/BRZ split, with the BRZ being the "higher end" model, 500 for the year wouldn't be out of the ordinary. |
One dealer told me that they were only making 800 and that I probably wouldn't be able to get one (his exact words when I asked if I'd be able to find one were "fat chance")
Another dealer I went to said they were getting some in a while (summer sometime) and that he'd sell me one as soon as I wanted. |
Well who knows, but seems a bit too low for all of canada. It could be that they are going to start selling the 2014 model at some point so they won't bother making too many more 2013s.

it's a very niche car |

I was told 10:1 FR-S vs. BRZ ratio by a Scion rep/source.
|
When I was talking to my sales rep back in June, he told me the original allotment was 6 per dealer, so the total number of 500 isn't far fetched at all.

just as a reference, (i got my numbers off the internets, no official source) in 1998 the Impreza RS Coupe sold a total of 1,680 units across all of canada. 2,140 for 99 6,120 for 00 4,093 for 01 then it was discontinued. Keep in mind that this is considering that the Coupe was really a sedan, everything about the car was virtually the same except for the side panels. The original model was around since 93 so plenty of years to get a solid production going. In retrospect the FRS/BRZ is a brand new car, with Global demand, and a limit production ability @ Japan’s plant. A 500 unit allocation for Canada in the first year, really, isn’t far-fetched. Especially if you consider that the FRS, built at the same plant, commands a much larger market share. Again, you’ve got to think of the BRZ as the “high end” version of the platform. The FRS sold over 2500 units in its first month out. |
I'm not surprised tbqh, the average person wouldn't even consider a coupe especially when the backseat space is very limited (no one would want to sit there, if you've ever tried it) unless you are a tiny person and requires the front seat to be pushed all the way forward. That plus 10:1 build ratio, and winter time in Canada, definitely discourages the average from buying this kind of car.

That just means there will be less WRB ones floating around
|
The less the better!
I do not want to see the BRZ end up like just another Civic or Geneis Coupe, or the soon to be abundant FRS that's flowing around nowadays. |
Hey I sure don't mind, glad I got one of those 500, and in WRB +)
Guessing some colours will be really rare at least in 2013 models. I never see any of the rest of you it seems either. I am lucky to even see an FRS once a week and I do 850 kms a week on the 401.. Love the looks the car gets though, and I bet most are .. "WTH is that?" |
