So SOA8433000 (BRZ license plate installation kit) comes with the actual plate mounting bracket?
|
Going on one year with no front license plate in Northern Cali... Even the CHiPpy who awarded me my speeding ticket a few months ago didn't notice it.
I probably just jinxed myself right now... |
Is it possible to do this without taking out the bumper?

ugh front plates are a necessary evil >_<

i just did this today...Thanks for the write up, shiumai. I will buy you some shiumai of course!
man... i got to say this was not easy. those pop rivets were painful to deal with. I also reversed the direction of the two metal plates, what's the diameter of screw that will fit? I'm having two concerns though..... 1. How long does a permanent magnet remain a magnet? are these magnets going to decay and lose attraction force? 2. Since we have 4 strong magnets in front of the car, will any induced electric field occur and we will get more static shocks? |
Thanks. Did this. Seems to work well. Side markers were a pain. The rest seemed not too bad.

did this mod about 4 months ago on the FRS, i was able to stick the magnets behind the grill w/o having to remove the bumper
the first time i used super glue LOL, i was running no plates on a hot day after a car meet (i forgot to put the plates back on) and one of the magnets got loose... was lucky and found it stuck to a metal part on the car after that i used gorilla glue. so far so good, im confident with this glue, i drive with no plates for weeks sometimes and its holding up to this houston heat |
This should be come a factory option! Stop ruining bumpers.

Bought some similar magnets at Home Depot to save a buck and they definitely did not have the gusto to hold each other together through the bumper. Ordering the same ones from the first post (geez shipping is pricey) to do the job right.
Also, the bumper is a little bit of a biotch to remove. Worth jacking the car up IMO. I understand the side markers now, but they sure aren't easy. I found it easiest first to press down on the upside down plastic pop rivet that' holds the sidemarker inside the bumper/fender (on the top of the sidemarker assembly) and get that loose before using the flathead screwdriver to pry the sidemarker away from the bumper. And, of course, all those little plastic pop rivets never survive being pulled out. Will post the success when I get this all done! |
Any negative long term effects on the paint? Paint + magnets usually isn't good....
