I use to hate CARB myself but being a SoCal native and remembering how bad it was and how much better it is. I'm supportive.

I'm hoping Greddy and HKS will pursue CARB certification also. Nice to hear Vortech is. For guys like me, CARB approval is a must. (Yes, we all know how to get around it but i'm too old to deal with that anymore)

You can definitely see a difference. The air quality is MUCH better than it was 30 years ago. Even 20 years ago.

My problem with CA smog laws is that they're no longer about clean air, it's all a money grab. If it were about clean air, then we wouldn't need CARB EO#s for mods because the smog checks that we've been doing would determine whether or not we were polluters.

I lived in Japan for 15 years. When I first started living on the outskirts of Tokyo, the smog was so bad that you would literally have black snot by the end of the day. They made a concerted effort to clean that up, and the air quality is much better there.

However, it wasn't cleaning up cars that made the difference, it was cleaning up all the diesel trucks that really did the job. Currently, cars are still only minor polluters still in comparison to all the trucks making deliveries throughout Tokyo. Which is why they are not big sticklers about modifications to cars.

But don't forget about two strokes. Think about how many lawn mowers, boat motors, weed wackers etc. Snowmobiles use to be the worst.

all of the things on that list are used so infrequently that their contribution is negligible. your computer causes more pollution every year than your weed wacker, by an order of magnitude.

Out of state plates for me, problem fixed.

Also as a California native...I can't tell a difference. LA was bad--somehow we all got wrapped up into their problem. CARB is a money grab, plain and simple.

Financially, I can understand why you folks may not be interested in pursuing it. Clean air or not. the fact is I'm getting pretty tired of having to go the "back route" to get smogged. Here in SoCal mobile smog stations are popping up at every random corner on any given day also - with hefty fines if caught. I've seen at least two this year alone. It just all gets to be a pain in the arse.

You guys have my #1 choice for FI kits otherwise.

Did you read the thread? Specifically, the part where I explained where the difficulty is going to be in getting a CARB number for a turbo kit on this car? CARB approval is IMPOSSIBLE without leaving the factory cat in place. Both of them.

Good to see that the state continues to spend our tax money wisely...oh, and hold-up traffic as a bonus...:rolleyes:
