Erractic loss of power at low RPM
When I first start driving the car (already warmed up to one bar on the temp gauge) I notice a dramatic loss of power from 2k RPM up to 3k -3500. Anyone else notice this issue? I will say after some time it goes away but this is after about 25 minutes of driving.
I do have the FA20Club intake and ECU tune but this did not start until the weather down here significantly warmed up and it became more humid. Also, the first few tunes (ROM files) did not have this. I am already in touch with FA20club and they are looking at the tune. Just curious if this is causing damage and I should quit driving and whether its been already discussed/noticed. I had the idea that it just could be the default fuel/air ratio the ECU gives the engine until the thermostat is able to get it's bearing after a few miles. Just my theory. |
Are they tuning YOUR car, or just an OTS generic tune? OTS tunes are generally pretty terrible.

Not sure what OTS stands for. Sorry. It's specific to my car. They emailed me an initial tune and then I log 3rd gear pulls to redline and 1-6 gear normal driving with the ECUtek software and email him the results. He tweaks the tune and then sends me a revised tune. This is the 4th tune.

OTS=off the shelf

Asking to compare a stock ECU to one that is tuned (especially on this car, as the whole thing is voodoo right now) is a waste of everyone's time. Assuming the car is tuned properly, just about everything will be changed. That said, and if you weren't aware, there is a significant torque dip near the ranges you mention on the stock engine. This is by design from Toyobaru, and is evident here: http://namelessperformance.com/Pictu...20Axleback.jpg Most tunes I've seen will shift this dip down in the power band to alleviate some of the loss under spirited driving. Hope this helps. |
Not to mention one of the most documented aspects to this car.

That's fine, you didn't come off crass. I appreciate the discussion. I am well aware of the torque dip and have always felt in the car. (little less after tune) However, I now only feel the "dip" 2-3k and not where the dip usually is which is 3-4500. That's why it was alarming the first place to me. I did receive a response from FA20club and they are emailing me a revised tune. He contributed it to the exhaust cam not working until the car temperature is above 90C. He is going to adjust the cam phasing map to see if it will minimize the power loss. Thanks for the response and information though. We'll see what happens from here. |
