FA20 OEM pistons, are they Forged or Cast ?

any idea ?

Guff 02-01-2012 02:39 PM

Aren't most modern components cast?

wichiewichie 02-01-2012 02:48 PM

Almost a 100% sure the pistons should be cast. Can't think of a reason to be otherwise, and cast are a lot cheaper.

yes most engines has cast internals.

Syldrin 02-01-2012 03:06 PM

i would agree most cars now a days have cast pistons

Dimman 02-01-2012 04:20 PM

2JZ had cast pistons, why the hell would this one get forged?

Perhaps the question would be better suited on the con-rods and crank...

Tip: Better to beef up the bottom then waste time at the top. More likely to throw a con-rod out the side of the block then melt a hole through the piston (unless you do something really stupid with the fuel).

The ej207 comes with forged pistons.

Syldrin 02-01-2012 05:55 PM

As pointed out, it does not.

I will bet you many things that it comes with hypereutectic pistons. For the uninitiated, hypereutectic pistons are cast.

i thought EJ207 and EJ255 and EJ257 stopped using forged internals other than the crank after V7. And all recently built performance EJs from the factory where cast rods and pistons.

I don't recall specifics, but I know for a fact that the V7 EJ207 was the last with forged pistons. I just don't recall any engine EXCEPT the EJ207 getting forged internals. Even if the EJ257 or EJ255 have forged rods, they're decent, but nothing to write home about. I'd have to check NASIOC to be certain, but I'm fairly sure I'm right.

HomemadeWRX would know off the top of his head.

The last relatively inexpensive naturally aspirated production car I can think of that came with forged pistons and rods was the S2000.
