but on topic, i'd take a focus ST over a speed 3, more refined ride, better handling, the power is applied in a more linear fashion and has a better LSD which helps limit torque steer. The speed 3, while a fun car is a notorious engine with quirks just like the rx-8, and while if you stay stock you can reduce the chances of a Zoom Zoom Boom, that doesn't guaranty it won't still happen.

and the veloster while cool looking, just didn't do it for me, gear box left a lot to be desired, power was missing, and overall ride feel was kinda jarring on the freeway.

Same, focus ST would be my choice if I was buying fwd. Cool car :)

His deciding points were based more on everyday practicality than driving experience, which is perfect for him.

1) Extended warranty standard (100k mi)

2) Premium gas not required
3) Possibility of getting almost 40 mpg
4) Thinks it looks better (I like the look of it better too)
5) Comes with all-season tires (although I have a feeling he may be getting snow tires once winter hits, we'll see)

Sitting in it, I can see more reasons that he got this car. While there are a lot of buttons, there are far less than in the ST (he's an engineer, likes efficiency). Its seats are comfortable and supportive without being as ensconcing as the seats in the twins. I didn't like how much you have to move the clutch pedal, but he likes it because its very forgiving and you really have a good idea of how worn the clutch is over time.

All together, he's very happy with his purchase. The Marathon Blue is a brilliant color, not too dark and not too light, and the car actually has a fairly strong look to it. It definitely stands out.

Good thing it's got the 100K warranty...he'll need it.

Even if he does, I know maybe a half-dozen Hyundai owners who have had their car years, without many issues. :iono:

You must have a strong anus in the MSF community...we all use sand paper condoms on those who join. Once you’re in there is no better car community that is more tight nit and willing to lend a hand or some cash to those in need. I’m still very active in my local NATOR chapter and wrench on cars with by good buds nearly every weekend. But defiantly search…. brownie.

Hope he enjoys his new car.
