I've driven both. ST by a mile. Don't understand why would anyone chose a VT.

Kelbyat07 05-05-2013 11:21 PM

From what I heard, the ST is the best car for the money. My friends test drove the VT and they said it was slow and bad handling.

Motortrend even did a review with the ST against the GTI and BRZ, and the outcome was that the ST won.

ST is the better all around buy...and the looks of the Veloster Turbo make me want to break things...

Well, enjoy breaking things, because he bought the VT last Wednesday. I think I already stated earlier that's what he was going for.

His deciding points were based more on everyday practicality than driving experience, which is perfect for him.

1) Extended warranty standard (100k mi)
2) Premium gas not required
3) Possibility of getting almost 40 mpg
4) Thinks it looks better (I like the look of it better too)
5) Comes with all-season tires (although I have a feeling he may be getting snow tires once winter hits, we'll see)

Sitting in it, I can see more reasons that he got this car. While there are a lot of buttons, there are far less than in the ST (he's an engineer, likes efficiency). Its seats are comfortable and supportive without being as ensconcing as the seats in the twins. I didn't like how much you have to move the clutch pedal, but he likes it because its very forgiving and you really have a good idea of how worn the clutch is over time.

All together, he's very happy with his purchase. The Marathon Blue is a brilliant color, not too dark and not too light, and the car actually has a fairly strong look to it. It definitely stands out.

You won't get 40mpg. Look on fuelly.com to see the averages for VT owners. Hyundai lied/flubbed up the mpg ratings/testing, so you're likely to see 35mpg at the high end.

Unless you drive at 55mph all the time. Then you might see 40.

uhhhh, the seats in the fiesta and focus st are recaro..... and the electronics for the my ford touch and sync is microsoft... but I bet you wouldn't mind a nice set of recaros in your current vehicle and I bet you have a nice computer with Microsoft on it. Hmmmm :bonk:

I'm glad he got what he wanted but I don't trust Hyundai even with their "so called" 100,000 mile warranty. Hyundai needs that warranty to stand out and use everyone else's car designs in order to sell cars. That's just me and I am sure a lot of you had bad experiences with car brand and still hate it to this day or would never consider them ever.

In the end, this is all that matters. Congrats to your dad on his new car!

I remember reading that somewhere before as well. He's getting over 31 mpg at this point.

But, frankly, anything is an upgrade milage-wise over his old RX-8, which at its best got 25 mpg. Also, not requiring premium.

Exactly. He's already trying to figure out what to name it.

So brand names are what you like? OK. Whatever. Still crap seats and electronics. The lame-ass ST seats don't have adjustable lumbar support or adjustable upper back support and both are complete excrement.

I've considered the Recaro Sport Topline for the FR-S. I like the extendable thigh support, adjustable lumbar, ventilation, and holes for a 4 point. That plus an ASM belt would be nice. However, I'd have to order one from Europe to get it with an airbag and it's beaucoup bucks. Too beaucou! Too beaucoup!

Congrats to your dad!

I hate the Veloster. Idk why but I have a horrible feeling in my gut whenever I see one, I think it looks like an abomination lol.

Glad he got the car that he was happier with. That's all that matters.

Sorry, I didn't read all the comments posted previously, but to answer your question I say VT. Especially, since it's going to be his DD. I sat in both cars at the Auto show and the Ford's build quality/craftmanship/feel felt like sh1t. On the other hand the VT felt really nice inside. Very high quality fit/finish/feel/etc. for the money. I remember thinking that the FT looked fairly nice from the outside, but when I got in the car it felt like a 80's Tarus. Yeah, it felt that bargain basement inside, and something I'd never want to drive daily.
