Life of stock Michelen Primacy tires with casual driving?

I'm trying to plan some mods and am considering new wheels/tires but I'd like to use up 70% of the Michelins to get a feel for the car stock. I don't drive fast, I don't peel out of driveways, i'm actually a very casual, modest driver. I read someone getting about 20k miles on his stock tires and if that's what to expect, I might switch out around 10-15k miles. I've enjoyed the first 1k so far :)

At my 7,500 mile oil change I had 9/32 tread left front and rear. I don't know what the tread depth is when new. I too am a casual/modest driver.

Too long???? :D

I would guess it depends on your driving/cornering habits. But as slippery as they are they are summer tires and I would not expect more than 15-20K out of them.

They are 240 rated which means they are a harder compound. In other words, you can get anywhere from 20,000 miles to 30,00 miles on them depending on how you drive. I did a full season of auto x on them and they still have a shit ton of tread....

Nah, they are 240, not 500. Go ahead and look them up on Tire rack.

Yeah, I quickly glanced on tire rack and saw 500 but that was on the mxv4 tires not the hps.

17k miles and a couple dozen doughnuts, aggressive driving, etc....still 6 /32nds of tread left.....

Thread-wear warranty on these is 35k. So I'd expect them to last quite some time. The 240 figure means squat, producers can put basically whatever they want for this number.

I would imagine at least 30k miles with normal use as they are meant for a Prius.

Dam in a way I don't want them to last too long as an excuse to get new wheels and tires :D
I had 8/32 left on thread after 7664 miles
I guess its time to :burnrubber:

That treadwear rating is pretty much an arbitrary number.
I've had low numbers that have lasted 30-40K miles, and I recently had a set of higher number all seasons that lasted less than 10K miles before needing replacement.

With non-aggressive driving, 30K miles isn't too much to expect out of these tires. I can drive very aggressively at times and slide and drift the car when I have the chance, so I'm not expecting to get near that amount, but I'm impressed with the wear on the tires so far.

Also keep in mind... the Primacy that you buy at Tire Rack is not necessarily going to be what you are currently running on your car. The OEMs can specify special additives and different compounds that aren't in the normal commercial version of the tires to extend tire life outside of the warranty period, or to increase fuel mileage or to increase/decrease performance. About the only thing that is guaranteed to be the same between an OEM tire and the commercial production tire will be the actual construction of the tire (ie the number/type of pieces used to assemble the tire) and the tread pattern.

So if you are looking for another Primacy and want the exact same thing you have now, make sure that you are actually getting a Primacy mean for the BRZ/FR-S through the dealership. Tire Rack may or may not actually carry the OEM version.

Two track days and 16,000+ aggressive street kms, still have 7-8/32 tread left. I'm guessing they will last 30,000km easy.

I got 10k miles out of mine before they were dead. A handful of AutoX...I guess I'm not a weenie.

After about 6K miles mine looked brand new. I'd say they could easily last 20K miles.
