Security Advisory
I'm tired of PMing lol. I wanted to keep the issue more private, but I've come to the realization that if someone wants to break into a car, they'll do it one way or the other. Apparently this also works with a garage door opener too. Here's the post:
After searching through the internet, it seems that toyota has addressed this issue on Pg. 40 of this document: However, you should still be aware of the following So this is basically why I am concerned: I found that if you go to lock/unlock your car with your smart key while someone within range of your car holds the lock/unlock button on their smart key, your car will not respond to your own key. Their signal basically just interferes with your signal causing the car to do nothing. If you walk away w/o noticing, your car will be completely defenseless. No lock. No alarm. In my test, I held my key button about 60 feet away from my dads car and it interfered with his key causing his car not to lock. This also worked vice-versa. Moral of the story... It may be common sense, but make sure your car actually locks! Don't think clicking the button on your key will always lock your car. If someone can see if this also works withs Subaru's I'd appreciate it. For now I am only aware of this affecting scion/toyotas. I have emailed nhtsa, scion, and fcc BTW for the non-thieves out there, this is also an epic prank to pull on your friends or family who drive toyota/scion cars! |
Did you find the start car without key button,...
I would sell the knowledge to the highest bidder. |

Edit: Also, its more like a thief's dream feature. |
take it to the dealer, tell them that Security holes should be covered under warranty, then wait for a logical response.

well, either shit or get off the pot....

The CIA of course.

When I had a problem with my car the dealer couldn't take care of they gave me the toll free number direct to Scion - 1-800-331-4331. That's where I would start.

A lock (glass, door, key) only ever keeps an honest man honest. If they want your X they're gonna take it.
|
I found the same flaw. If i break a window out I can get inside a locked car. Cant believe they make windows out of glass.
Call Scion Corpoarate and escalate a case with engineering. |
Just let us know so we can decide if we need to go to the dealership as well.
If someone wants to steal your car they will put it on a flatbed anyways. |
Just like in the computer world, the fastest way to get a security hole fixed is to make it public. Once the world knows, then the companies usually move to fix it fast.
If its quiet, they don't care very much. |
Yeah, for those of us that own the car it would be nice to know where we're vulnerable.
