Need help with some tips for autocross

Hey guys, this is going to be my first autocross with my gt86.

I have 2 set of different wheels, and i dont know which one are better for autocross.

The first set are the original 16' wheels with 205/70 original yokohama tires.
The second set are 18' Work Emotion Ultimate wheels with 235/40 goodyear asymmetric tires.

What is better for autocross? Fo better results ? My original set of 16'? Or my 18' work wheels?

Thanks.

Also can anybody help me about racing with trc off, vsc sport or normal mode?

Thanks alot and sorry about my pooor english.

If this is your first autox gt86, I'm going to assume that you have little experience pushing the limits of the car. Personally I'd recommend using the OEM tires at least once to get a feel for the car at the limit. Less sticky tires will allow you to feel the limits of the car much easier.

If the course is relatively safe, drive with all driving aids off. You'll never learn the car if the aids are always trying to take over.

^^ Pretty much what he said put the stocks on learn your car and its limits and later on maybe even next season try some bigger wheels and wider tires but also have to think bigger wheels = more weight to turn and with these under powered cars its not the best idea i would almost find another set of wheels like 16-17 that are nice and wide more tire on the ground and a sticker tire

Aren't the stock wheels 17s?

Some countries get different size of oem wheels/tires.

Stock tires. And for the first run, keep traction control on. Then use sport mode if you feel the traction control is holding you back. I've been autocrossing for a few years, but my first time autocrossing the FRS, I had trouble controlling it with traction control completely off.

Also, not trying to dis you, but if it's your first autocross, don't worry about being competitive. You will probably be in last place. Everyone is their first time.

First auto-x you'll be so busy learning how to read cones.
Like everyone is saying, start with stocks to learn on. I would turn off driving aids, if the auto-x is set up right, it should be safe and you want to be able to feel what's happening when you go past the limits. That's how you learn to correct it yourself.

You're fortunate to have 16" wheels for autocross (unless they're steel) since they lower the overall effective gear ratio providing better acceleration. Stick to them and invest in stickier rubber instead of going to a larger, heavier combination.

I'd say disable all electronic aids and push to and over the grip limits to test your and the car's abilities. Trust your tires, they're better than you imagine and if (when) you spin, congrats, now you know just how hard to push at a relatively slow speed in a controlled environment.

Who knows, you may be the next Juan Pablo Montoya. That's what I did my first year autocrossing an MR2 Spyder and took both Rookie of the Year and Regional Championship defeating the defending National Champion along the way.

Something you'll find helpful for a total investment of $5 is to make a strap of 1" or so web with some kind of buckle, run it under the seat and over your waist to plant your arse in the seat under high G loads encountered in auto-x. Your times will improve since you won't need to spend time bracing yourself, instead focusing on the next turn. And remember that your rear wheel will run a tighter line to the cone than the front, so leave a little distance to the apex to account for the difference.

As my SCCA road course instructor, a Porsche Cup Champion would yell at me when I thought all hope was lost, GAS, GAS, GAS! The best advice if you want to really experience what the designers intended with this amazing car. Good luck, let us know how it went.

And your English is excellent.

Go With the stock tires.. A great place to start.. Learn the car first.. You will be too busy learning the course and trying to avoid killing cones..
I would use the sport mode on VSC so you have some give for your first time around. You will love it..
