Well I went and did it, I bought an FRS!
Finally the time has come, and after much deliberation, I made my choice and I could not be happier that its a Scion FRS. It had me at hello. I'll be finding out tomorrow how long the wait will be on my firestorm red little beauty. Funny enough, I had no idea this car existed up until about January of this year...
Admittedly, Im not a very big car guy, or performance oriented driver. None of my friends really are either, and tuning cars and that whole scene was just never interested me much in my teenage days/early twenties. But I love driving now, and I can appreciate a finely engineered work of art such as this. I was pretty encouraged by some of the reviewers referring to this as somewhat of a "blank canvas" because Im pretty excited to sink a few hard earned dollars into this car to make it completely my own. Well now here I am at 27 years old, finished school and working in a career, and still driving the 06 corolla (hahahahah). I could have afforded financing for a few years now, but chose to pay off student loans first. Still, I feel slightly bad that I went all out on the car, ie TRD exhaust and Intake, stereo upgrades, rear spoiler, but I have my reasons! The large majority of my friends are in a serious relationship with someone and/or have kids, and quite simply could not buy/would not be allowed to buy something this cool and, well, selfish for lack of a better word. Why should I burn away the last 3 years of my twenties driving something conservative, only to get married in a few years and drive something even more conservative? I can afford this car while still living comfortably and banking money for a down payment on a house, so despite what some naysayers in my life are saying, I cant see any reason not to have purchased this car. You only live once right, and I personally cant see a more prime time in my life than now to start driving a nice little sports car. Cheers everyone, glad to be part of the FRS club (soon!!!!). |
congrats! it appears you got it figured out! actually this car should be considered a "second" car because of it's limited practicality, however many people are "justifying" it because, well, they want it! as you mentioned, and i agree,if ya can "swing" it,why not? best of luck with your new toy.

I think you choose a good time to buy the FRS. Finished school, paid off your loans, and your in your twenties. (Nothing wrong with being older) So I hope your going to have as much fun with your car as I am with mine.

Congratulations! Break her in hard :burnrubber:
I'm in my (early) twenties as well. Actually getting married very soon, and figured now would be the best time for me to purchase a sports car. I've always wanted a sports car since I was a kid and I'm very happy to be a first year fr-s owner :) |
Welcome to the community, gratz and enjoy your new toy... I can relate to your story and you're right!! You only live once make the best out of it....

Congrats! Somewhat similar story for me but I'm still in school, work, and have an awesome gf that understands me so I purchased my FR-S and she drives a nice Honda sedan so we take turns. :party0030:

Congrats on your choice. Enjoy and forget the naysayers. I'm in my early fifties and bought 2 FR-Ses(FR-I?). Anyway, got wife an AT in 09/12, liked it enough to give up my Mustang GT to get myself a manual. Enjoy it to the max and don't look back. Firestorm is the fastest color by the way!
