Best Daily Drive: FRS, Mustang or 370z?
What car is better to use as a daily drive? forget about the track just daily drive.
|
i've been in a Mustang (2 hour drives), they are so comfortable on the road.

LOL, these were EXACTLY the cars I was looking at 3 months ago. I was in an 03 cobra. What year mustang? I had an Fox and an SN95, both were really uncomfortable and horrible DD's. 370 would be fun because of power and it looks killer, but gas mileage killed it for me. FRS was a no brainer when all things were considered, but the 370Z would still be a FUN car to own!

FR-s or mustang would be my choice (which actually was my main 2 choices when buying a new car). I like the fr-s because of the fun to drive factor, gas mileage, and looks. Mustang has a lot of power, but the gas mileage wouldn't have been that fun as a DD.
Something else to consider is the driver inputs on the fr-s are much better than the mustang. Just driving it around, it has much more steering feel and the shifter feels wonderful to rev match, downshift, etc. For daily driving the fr-s wins IMO. Of course the power on the mustang gt is > all :D. Mustang is probably also comfier on longer trips (never complain in my fr-s though, just a little bumpy on our crap roads). I've been really getting tired of the z styling, and after hearing lots of problems with the 370z on the track (durability wise), and the not so great gas mileage for a v6, really had me favoring the mustang over it. I didn't even test drive one so can't really speak much here. |
Mustang personally, I am kicking myself for not buying one.

I did and my opinion is fr-s = better sports car, mustang = better engine Anyway if you bought a frs/brz you probably won't lose much if you sell now. I just traded in my a/t for a m/t and was only down 2k - and that's at a dealer! If you sell privately you can probably pay off your loan and have a little left to go towards the mustang. If you really want the power, you should have went for the mustang in the first place so why be unhappy? I love the fr-s too much to pass up myself. Although that new camaro z/28 sounds really nice lol... |
FRS is the better DD, because it is the most fuel efficient one lol

My thoughts having driven them. To me, the 370z comes in last in that group. It's as stiff & low as the FR-S, smaller interior, worse visibility, worse gas mileage, and has NVH issues, especially tire and drivetrain noise. I can't think of a single thing it does better as a daily driver than the other two.
The Mustang and FR-S would tie in my book. I've only driven the GT 5.0, but it's better than the FR-S as a daily driver in some ways. More interior space, more torque, and a softer ride. Reasons to pick the FR-S would be the nimble size/weight, steering feel, light clutch, and gas mileage. I'd love to go road-tripping in the Mustang GT. For urban commuting, give me the FR-S. |
having owned and dd'd a 370z, I would not describe it as a functional daily. this is largely due to the clutch, which is heavy and very challenging to operate smoothly, especially in low gear stop and go. totally doable, but requires a lot more concentration and attention. loved the car, lots or fun, but not practical or low stress. 18mpg avg, as opposed to the 29mpg avg I get in the brz. no idea how it compares to the mustang as a dd.

Daily driver only? Probably a mustang GT track pack... Daily driving involved a lot of testosterone, straight-ish roads, road rage, blocking people, passing people etc.
If you are the more mellow daily driver that doesn't care probably go for a yaris or something. |
