HPDE Brake Pads & fluid
 

I am prepping my BRZ for my first HPDE with the car.

Previous to this I was running an RSX-S, so totally different world.

I'm looking at pads and brake fluid, and my questions are this:



1. Is specific track brake fluid required in these cars? how does the OEM fluid hold up? Has anyone ever had boiling issues?


2. What full race pads would you recommend? I would be changing them out before and after a HPDE weekend, so no need for street manners.

1. Fluid is cheap. Definitely change brake fluid to something that can hold higher temps. You don't want to cut your day short just because you boiled your fluid. As far as fluid recommendation, most people will suggest ATE Typ 200/SuperBlue. You most likely won't boil that assuming you're on OEM tires, but it's difficult to say.

2. Brake pads are something you'd want to change too if it's within your budget. Similar to boiling brake fluid, your day will be cut short if you burn up your pads. Personally I'm on Carbotech XP10 on all 4 corners. I had no issues with fading at my last track event.

I will be running 245/40/17 Dunlop ZII's this season, so the tires will be quite sticky. Thanks for the input.

Motul RBF600 for fluid then. CSG will probably recommend Project Mu fluid.

The Motul stuff looks great. How much of it would someone need to do a full swap?


Back to pads again - are the Carbotech Xp's pretty much the gold standard? Any others up there that are highly recommended?

Pads? I have no comment on full race pads as I prefer aggressive street/hybrid pads for what I do. There's PLENTY of options for the front and options for the rear are pretty good now too. That said, I know the CL (Carbone Lorraine) pads are expensive, but they allegedly boast some of the best wear characteristics among the other important things pads do.

CSG was already mentioned, but you can always ask @JRitt for a pad suggestion as well.

I think the Motul fluid and the Carbo XP10s sound good!
