Speedventures time attack
 

After owning my new manual fr-s for about a month now I'm already eager to take this car to the track. I'm expecting to go to Willow Springs more than any other track in my area, but I'm also interested in Chuckwalla Valley raceway (looks like a really fun track).

Does anybody here honestly think this car has a chance of being competitive in Speedventures tt though? I know there's an 86 class, but idk it sounds more fun to me to participate with different cars rather than a class full of 86. Now I haven't tracked the car yet so this isn't speaking from any experience, but just on gut feeling.

So, speedventures tt has us in the cc7 class. Here's a list of cars in cc7:

Seems very competitive. I almost think fr-s belongs in cc8 based on lap times I've seen :iono:

I do know robispec has his car running 1:35 at big willow - wow what a great time! But then I started looking at s2000 and 350z on youtube and it seems like those are consistently getting 1:32-1:33 (race prepped of course).

So now I'm back to being discouraged.

Any thoughts? Does this car really have a chance against other cars, or is it destined to only be competitive with other 86's?

In NASA TT this weekend, I was running faster times than a lot of the field that was suppossed to be faster. My hot lap was with me chasing a TT3 (three classes above the FR-S class) E46 M3. We ended up less than .2 seconds behind him time-wise for the weekend.

If you're worried about being competitive without having ever tracked the car yet, then you're going about this all the wrong way.

Have you ever tracking any car before? Don't worry about the car and who you will be competiting against - worry about getting everything out of the car that you possible can as a driver.

Any race prepped s2k/350z wont be able to participate in the cc7 same as robi's car. If you look at the rules and classing on SV webpage you'll see that any massively upgraded cars will be bumped up accordingly.

Mod for mod the 350z and S2k will beat the FRS on sheer power at tracks like WSIR and ACS, but buttonwillow and streets we may have a chance.

You need to read carefully what class a FR-S/BRZ will class at with mods.

For example, the CSG BRZ is BC7. Then it gets +2 for non-stock springs and shocks, and +1.5 for brakes. That results in CC6 final class.

We were accidentally misclassed into CC5 at CVR... we would have walked away with a 10 second margin in CC5.

How much experience do you have? The FT86CUP is the most populated FR-S/BRZ series at the moment.

And no I've never tracked before, but I bought this car as my first track car (that was my main consideration purchasing it). So all I have behind me so far is theory crafting.

I know its probably a silly question not having tracked the car before, but currently I'm a little low on budget until I pay off last of taxes & move into a new place. Trust me I'm excited as heck to track this car its super fun in the twisties, I can't imagine at a race track!

Anyway the replies are definitely encouraging. I think a lot of it is too much theorycrafting and not enough racing :).

Also - I do plan on running the ft86 cup I was mostly asking because after I become a better driver I'd be more interested in driving vs. other cars. That might change in the future, though.
