Does you A/C blow cold?

Is it my car, or do they all not blow as cold as other cars? I would freeze in my family's cars: IS350, SC430, X6, 2012 Beetle, Range Rovers, Tacoma (big and little versions), FJ-Cruiser, etc..

This car just blows a cool breeze...hot compared to the others I listed. If it is something that doesn't sound normal, then I'll go compare it to others at the dealership.

SC430, eh? I see there's at least one smart person in your family :happy0180:

My SC can burn the shit out of me, or freeze my nuts off. Love it.

I noticed around town it lags. Highway trips I was fine.

Me too, temperature here is about 105f in the afternoon and I feel the AC blows enough air at full fan speed (4) but its not that cold. If I rev the engine above 3k rpm it gets a little cooler but not still not cool enough. However, when driving in highways at about 60mph it gets very cold and I reduce the fan speed to 3 or 2. Btw my car has very dark tinted windows.

Seems like the performance is not very good at idle or in stop and go traffic, but feels fine while moving at a decent pace. Wouldn't surprise me if this is a fuel mileage issue that you will see more and more often on new cars. The less the clutch on the A/C compressor engages the less fuel you waste during idle conditions.

So I'm glad I'm not the only, but at the same time, this saddens me.

The car barely has enough power to get out of its own way. You really think that will translate into also have it blow really cold air?

EAGLE5 04-25-2013 02:01 AM

Meh. It works fine. The car soaks a lot of heat on a hot day and takes awhile to get up to cooling. I'll put some tinted windows on.

Last time I checked, a Rav4 didn't have much power either, but it too freezed my ass off.

Mine blows cold air. But windows down is the way to go ;)

I have the same issue, went to the dealership where they have stuck a temp probe into the vents. Temp range was like 46F to 52F and kept fluctuating back and forth.

Dealership said it was within tolerance of 10 degrees, saying there's a lot of factors that the sensor will go on and off, or maybe he just didn't want to fix it.

But yea, anything fluctuation past 3 degrees F is something you can feel.

Mine works great. Though I did recover and recharge and adjusted the refrigerant amount using static pressures compared to the ambient temperature. A/C clutch cycles as it should. High side and low side pressures are perfect, again ambient temp makes a difference on what pressures you should have. Vent temp with A/C Max and doors open with an ambient of 90F I got 38F at the lowest and 44F at the highest for each compressor cycle.. Parked and at 1000 rpm.

Proper A/C performance testing is never at idle.
