I came down to guide @firestormriot through his catback install [found here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34386]. He ordered one of the replica diffusers so we decided to put it on while the car was in the air. It was exciting as he is starting to mod his car, and always fun to be working on them. Enjoy

Here is a quick look and dirty DIY guide.

Everything in all it's glory. One page, some hardware, and the diffuser itself. Very simple

Manual.

The diffuser was a smooth plastic. I'm unsure if the OEM diffuser has the same texture as the rear bumper. It has a matte plastic finish

It seems to actually be several parts held together with flower rivets. I didn't look at the manual. We assumed all the holes were mounting points

This hook goes over the rear bumper. On the outside is another hole for another mounting point

Sorry I didn't get a close picture of the supports. They can be seen later; I will point this out

Finished!

More pictures and thoughts

I looked at the Ebay diffuser that @Chris@Phastek purchased. I will say it is different than this one. I'll let @firestormriot post the ebay link for people who are interested

We wanted to minimize drilling, so test fitted with no drilling. The middle can be easily pushed down so we decided to drill the bumper for that middle mount point.

However, the fitment for the sides aren't great. There is about a 1/2-3/4" gap between the diffuser and bumper. Pushing up doesn't close the gap. We didn't want to stress anything so we left it alone. Despite this the diffuser is holding on very well.

I am certain like the OEM diffuser, this is not a functional piece. It is purely just for looks.

@firestormriot has the Zeta Performance Catback exhaust on. He told me his tips were 4.5" in diameter. They fill the hole made by the diffuser and bumper cutouts well.

Overall this product does the job: Gives the OEM look at 1/8th the cost.

By the screwdriver handle you can see the bumper supports I mentioned in the DIY

Great writeup I'm gonna buy one soon

It does complete the look. I'm not sure if the one on ebay is the one that night0 is selling. From pictures off of his posts they look like the fitment is better. price is almost the same too. If anyone can give a closeup pic to the one @night0 is seller that would be great!

I have to install mine asap! it is sitting in my house now!

Your hardware kit looks much better than the stuff that came with my knock-off kit.

Draco_PR23 04-24-2013 09:31 PM

^Agree, the hardware is different from my knock-off diffuser.
@F1point4 The sides of the diffuser are basically hanging? I'm asking because I installed mine last Saturday and my kit came with a bracket that is attached to the bumper and diffuser to give support. I dont see those brackets in the hardware picture.

BTW, great writeup

F1point4 04-24-2013 09:42 PM

The edges slide into place so it isn't quite hanging free

Aside from the brass nuts and bolts, they came with three side on clips with tapped holes for screws. We didn't use those. However we couldn't push the diffuser to mate with the bumper so it was moot

i just installed a rubber spacer to fill the gap and used the clip and a longer screw to secure it to the bumper. It's pretty much invisible until you get really close and i prefer it to the gap.

Mind posting the ebay link for the diffuser, @firestormriot?

sharris721 04-25-2013 01:09 AM

I got the same one, I think... It was only $98.xx. I didn't drill anything I just fastened it with the plastic clips and 4 of the screws. I tugged on it pretty hard, its not gonna come off. As far as install time it took me longer to jack up the car on stands.
