Owners with small children?

Coming from a 4-door gti, my oldest is old enough to sit up front with me, but the two youngest only ever rode in my gti once (we have a van for family trips). That being said, is it troublesome to get the small children in/out of the back? There are trips where its me, my wife and my 10 year old only....

Honestly, although some will tell you they fit fine, my daughter of 5 complained the entire time she was in the BRZ that my wife's seat was crushing her legs. Unless the driver/passenger are under 5'10" (or wanna sit with their knees crushed against the dash), the back seats really aren't functional, imo.

I have a 3, 6 & 8 yo kids. They all can climb back there no problem.

Edit: I'm 5'6" and my wife is only 5'2" so we leave a little more leg room...

Then you'll be fine with a child on the passenger side. My wife is 5'10" (I'm 6'2" with the seat all the way back) and can only slide the seat up a few inches, so my daughter pretty much had to sit cross-legged the whole time.

My wife had to sit in back on the test drive of the FR-S (I wonder if that's why she liked the BRZ better lol) and while she didn't enjoy the ride it wasn't like her legs got chopped off or anything. Also there are some new ideas for tow hook bike racks so if you need to take your kid and their bicycle you should be okay. Wouldn't want to ride cross-country like that though.

I have 2 passengers in my car only if I have to and they are uncomfortable and complain. Nearly impossible to put someone behind me though, but I'm 6'2". Only did it once and shifting gears was sketchy.

Had 5 yr old son in back and 14 year old daughter in front on weekend. Only downside is the shoe marks everywhere from my boy.

I only have to take my older daughter once in a while (5 years old) so it's not too bad. She sits in a Recaro Probooster seat and it fits perfectly in the bucket seats. If I had to take the entire family, it would probably be a tight fit for me only because my 3 year old would have to sit behind me and I would have to move the seat forward for her legs. My wife is only 5'2" so the passenger side would be fine. It's not a family car obviously, but I think as long as you or your wife could move the seat up comfortably for your 10 year old's legs it should be OK. That and your kid will have to watch their head when getting in and out.

I have 2 car seats in mine for my kids (2yr & 3yr). They both fit just fine. I usually have to slide my seat up a little from where I normally have it but I'm still comfortable. I'm 5'7" so my seat is never all the way back anyway. I guess it depends on how tall the driver and front passenger are for the rear seat to be functional.

It is an issue. My wife had to move her seat up quite a bit (she is 5'1'') to keep my 4 year olds feet from dirtying up the back of the passenger seat.
I dont know how tall you are but i would assume 5'8'' / 5'10'' you will have to move the seat up quite a bit

I would use your van.

I've got a 4-door GTI, and the difference in rear legroom between the two cars is significant. I'd guess that if you or your wife are 5'7 or taller, it'd be difficult for kids to sit behind you, unless the person up front slid their chair up and sacrificed some leg room. Also entering/exiting the car is a pain, since the roofline is low and the seatbelt strap has to be undone. It's possible to do, but I wouldn't want to do it often (or for long drives).

Coming from a 4-door GTI, you'll probably find it a pain. Unlike the FR-S, the GTI can comfortably fit two average-sized adults in the rear seats and they each get their own door.
