Pirelli World Challenge @ Long Beach - Robert Stout Racing
After some transmission issues at St. Pete, the #86 car finished the 3rd round of the Pirelli WC.
http://www.world-challenge.com/files...20_800x600.jpg Fast Lap Times: Practice 1 - 1:50.299 (22nd in GTS) Practice 2 - N/A Qualifying - 1:38.940 (24th in GTS - Last Place) Race - 1:35.641 Finished 2 laps down form the leader and up to 19th in GTS. He started 24th in GTS. I heard that they had to rebuild the engine after the first practice session, not sure what happened there. Still a work in progress it looks like. They don't seem to have a lot of manufacturer support relative to some others in the series but overall this is a pretty "grassroots" series of racing. Next stop: Circuit of the Americas (May 17-19) |
Great info! Thanks for the post!
Two weeks ago, I was chatting with one of the drivers of the Mazda Racing Team at Barber Motorsports Park, Continental Tire Grand Am Series. He told me that one of the other team (I can't remember the name) was building an FR-S for that series as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how the 86s stack up against the more "established" platforms in the coming years! Scott |
Also here are some photos from the Toyota Celebrity Race via Autoblog:

After doing a bit of searching, I finally remembered the name of the team! It's Rebel Rock Racing and they have built an ST Class Continental Tire FR-S! Here's the pic from their web site.
I think its gorgeous! (on a side note, this IS a 100% RACE CAR and notice NO WING! LOL!) http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i2...psec1519f3.jpg Scott |
I saw this Scion at Long Beach last Sunday being worked on then going around the track. I got all giddy seeing an actual TRD supercharger in person. It was louder than most other cars in the GTS class and not in a good way but it was still great to see it in action with the big boys.

Wait a second! I almost spit out my lunch all over my laptop! You.. actually... SAW... the TRD Supercharger???? Did you take pics? Did you ask the team anything about it? Did you learn anything about it? Was it a twin screw? Was it centrifugal? Are you 100% POSITIVE it was THE TRD Supercharger on an ACTUAL CAR???? This was your first post and this is like strolling into a room with veteran hunters and the first thing out of your mouth is; "Yeah, I saw a great white buffalo!" Sorry for the panic attack but this is big news and there have been a lot of us speculating about this supercharger for a long time! Please share anything you know in the Forced Induction Section of the Technical Topics!:thanks: Scott |

I had expected when the BRZ and FR-S were declared eligible for ST that several cars would be entered for this season. The twins just seem like a natural fit in that class. Instead Scion apparently threw its support to the Pirelli World Challenge GTS class where I just cannot see the FR-S ever being competitive. |

The R. Stout FRS and some of their team came to our meet yesterday and talked to us about their build and let us gawk at their car. It was awesome. First time I got to sit in a car fully built up for the track. The driver's super thin--my butt just barely could squeeze into his seat. LOL |

Best: MB SLR. Painfully sexy sounding. Next best: Toss up between the Corvettes and the CTS-V's. Next next best: The Porsches of course. I didn't get a good listen to the Volvo and the Fusions were pretty obnoxious sounding. The FR-S didn't sound bad to me, just like a 4 banger haha. Nathan |
