Did my first oil change today. Used amsoil, factory filter and a dimple magnet drain plug. Engine is noticeably quieter with the new oil. Amsoil is Highly recommended!

Uhhh, congratulations? Did you use the non-API certified Signature Series or the API certified XL/OE line? 0W-20?

I've got the 5w30 Signature series sitting in the garage for my next change. Good stuff if you get a deal on it.

When I change out the old conventional oil from my car and replace it with new conventional oil the car is noticeable quieter. Conventional oil is highly recommended!!!

Uhhhh, what? The BRZ/FRS require Full Synthetic motor oil.

Imma guess he was referring to how basically no matter what brand new oil is better than old oil.

I was poking fun at the OP. and his reasoning for "highly recommending" Amsoil. Doing any oil change after the oil is spent will make the engine feel smoother and run quieter.

Require...no. Recommended..yes.

By putting a different weight/viscosity oil, the motor might not be able to perform as effiencient as before. 0-20 is what is recommended, so synthetic it is. This is probably gonna turn into another one of those oil threads unfortunately.

The "old" oil only had 1500 miles on it. Still like the amsoil!

It depends how robust you want to go and how much you want to spend. Amsoil makes about five 5W-30's.

There's not a whole lot of difference between the Signature Series 0W-20 and 5W-30. I believe the XL and OE lines are pretty close as well. I would probably choose the 10W-30 between SS, XL, and OE. Personally, I've tried the 0W-30 SS (and have done uoa's) oil and I prefer a more robust oil for a forced induction application.

You definitely don't want to go too thin and you don't won't to go thicker than necessary. If you want to run it to around 7,500 miles, my pick would probably be the Series 3000 HDD 5W-30. A very robust old school anti-wear package (high ZDDP) and a good High Temp High Shear of 3.5 cP. There have been some very good WRX uoa's on this oil.

At 5k miles oil change intervals or less, the Dominator 5W-20 would be a good choice IMO. It may even be able to go longer with a used oil analysis with a TBN. You can also just call up Amsoil technical support and see what they say.

The amsoil dealer and my performance shop said stay 0-20 I got the signature series and I'm now a preferred customer.

In the Signature line, I would choose the 5W-20 over the 0W-20 because the NOACK volatility on the 5W-20 is 5.5% and the 0W-20 is 9.3%. That's even better than Red Line xW-20. The only benefit that the 0W-20 would give you in Kentucky is .025% better fuel economy in the first 5 minutes of driving. :)

Lower NOACK means less evaporation and likely less risk of deposits forming.

You should also check your oil level weekly and do a used oil analysis after about 3-4k miles. I wouldn't even change the oil since you may be able to run it longer than that. And go with Oil Analyzers Inc for the uoa. As a preferred customer, you'll pay $17.95 for the non postage paid analysis. OAI includes TBN, oxidation, and nitration for that price. You don't get any of those in a $25 Blackstone uoa. You can order it directly from Amsoil.
