Proposed new DUI laws WA State

New DUI Laws in lieu of some pretty heinous deaths at he hands of drunk drivers that are being proposed in WA State:

1st Offense:
-Interlock device gets installed on car before the person is convicted. If proven innocent then device gets removed. You are essentially guilty until proven innocent.
-Monetary fine and points as well on the record.

2nd Offense:
-6 months in jail
or
-Wear bio-scan bracelet/anklet for 1 year that can detect alcohol in your body. You also have to take an alcohol treatment program. If you "device" detects alcohol in your body then you get hauled in.

3rd Offense:
-1 year in jail
or
-Wear bio-scan device (1 year), take alcohol treatment program and get a new license issued to you that bans you from buying or being served alcohol in WA State for the next 10 years.

That last provision would require ALL establishments selling or serving alcohol to check the ID of EVERYONE regardless of age because we would no longer be checking ID to verify someone is old enough to drink but still eligible to drink. This means a very different looking "DUI" drivers license would be issued. This does put the burden of the situation on the community (aka the business owners).

The theory behind the last provision is that we can suspend someone's license but many people still drive. Many DUI's occur by people without licenses or with suspended licenses.

It will be interesting to see how this goes in the state house/senate.

I thought it would be a fantastic idea to issue first offenders (at their cost, naturally) special neon colored license plates for all registered vehicles in their name that lets others around them know that they drive drunk. It makes an offender plainly visible to law enforcement as well as the innocent drivers that are in the area. Law enforcement would also be allowed to pull any vehicle over with these plates at any time for random breathalizer/field sobriety tests. It also carries the shame factor, which would be great. All of this in addition to the proposed legislation, of course.

I have no tolerance or respect for those selfish enough to drive while intoxicated. Complete scum.
