We're ADM :)
I think most cars we get here would be eudm. But interestingly it's just called the 86 here which as fr as I know is JDM?

Something to do with the injectors

It changes the spray pattern of the injectors to a wider spray for the fuel to atomise better with the air. There is a verrry slight ping[pre ignition] on some of the cars on gear change. You can hardly hear it. Yes, our fuel in SA is THAT cr@p.

Bummer man... excited to see the results. Anyone gonna get before and after video and or data?

Hey guys, got hold of a service manager at McCarthy Toyota Table View (021 521 5700)

They have the update and are happy to do it for anyone.

Apparently it helps with a *ping* on the change of the fuel injectors and slightly improves performance.

My car is in for its 15000 km service today at Market Toyota Culemborg, they didn't know about the update, but are looking at it for me. (Obviously don't like being behind McCarthy)

Will let you know either way if I get mine done.

i went to toyota culemborg just before lunch to ask them about it, and the service manager was adamant the rough idling is a gear box issue and that i should bring the car in for a service. They're going to take her apart while i;m overseas, which i'm not keen on.

I guess i'll give the Mccarthy guys a call...

CzechZA 04-18-2013 11:10 AM

Hi,
I phoned Imperial Toyota Kempton Park and looks like they can do update next week for me. Guy from service dept. told me to contact Jacques on Monday to arrange it ( 011-9703930 ). Will keep you updated :)

Hey Vladror, I cleared things up with Judd the service forman, after getting Gino to go and look through their bulletins. Gino found the right one and is going to download the software.

They have offered to do my car on Monday after they have had time to set it all up.

Not sure I want to volunteer to go first !!! ;-)

Vladror 04-18-2013 11:28 AM

after reading through the various idling posts all over the forum, i think i'm going to get the software update first before letting them take the gearbox apart. It seems to be the only thing that has fixed the issue (so far) for most people.

haha, good timing on your service, he probably felt outnumbered :)
as i posted earlier, i wasn't too keen on his suggestion to 'fix' the gearbox.
i'll be out of the country for next 3 weeks from tomorrow, so happy for you to go first and share the experience :)

McCarthy Toyota Table View (021 521 5700) they might be able to help with what to ask, i just asked for the software update

reQunix 04-18-2013 03:19 PM

I'm taking my car in tomorrow for air filter and TRD gear knob install. I will speak to my dealer's head technician and see if Barloworld know anything about this. If not, I'll hop over to Table View to do it some time next week.

I haven't noticed these issues though so it's possible it's already been done during PDI (finished last week Friday, so could have been in time) or maybe the automatic just wiggles around these issues already.

ZA1JA01G. Was ZA1J700G before the update.

Vladror 05-03-2013 12:31 AM

those of you who have gotten the updates, what's your general impression?
i'm planning to spend some quality time with my car next week :)

Ryan86 05-03-2013 03:20 AM

Hey guys,
Ran a dyno test yesterday.

Based on my previous dyno test results, I have a slight improvement on the mid dip since the SW upgrade, however top end seems to level out sooner.

Dont expect much from this upgrade, its purely a fix on the idle dip and the injectors. In most cases the upgrade has already been done during PID for the newer vehilces and will be checked and done on your first service if not done.

So dont rush out and think your getting better performance, some of the guys have actually had better results before the upgrade.

Hope this helps

reQunix 05-03-2013 06:00 AM

Took my car in today for an oil change and ECU software update. Turns out, since my car is fairly new, it already had it applied. The current code for automatics is ZA1JA01I.

wmaz 05-10-2013 12:12 PM

Is the SW update something that the dealer must download or is it send to them by TSA? ie should all dealers have it although they might not be aware of it or can I tell them to download it if they don't have it? Also can the dealer check what is the newest version they have to be compared to version nr's posted in this thread?
Thanks for the help guys!

Vic_RSA 05-10-2013 02:55 PM

When they do the update I'm sure it shows the update versions - otherwise they wouldn't know if it needed it. I'm due for service in 2 weeks... Will let you guys (and gals) know!

RueFT86 05-22-2013 05:26 AM

Vic did you go for your service and SW upgrade as yet?

I went on Monday and the upgrade was done. Bottom-end power is improved and the severe torque dip seems better. Quicker off the line for sure.

Naughty 05-22-2013 08:43 AM

Also had the update done yesterday.

Lets see how it goes now.

DrSUTRA 05-22-2013 12:31 PM

Hey guys!

Just had my update done few days ago at Toyota Gezina, Pretoria.

I managed to convince the service manager to let me have a few pics including:

1. The before upgrade
2. After upgrade
3. The actual update bulletin and the instructions from TSA :-D

Am sure this makes life easier...print, or email to your dealership, then, praise me :-P

Also had it done @Ryan86 There's a definite marked difference in performance, particularly in midrange. Maybe more noticeable up here at altitude than down at the coast?
Reckon it's a bit of a gti killer now!

Rossi 05-30-2013 02:37 PM

My car went for its first service today and the update, and I can say that I really can feel a difference, didn't think I was going to but I really can, it pulls much better down at lower revs

brian_c_m 05-31-2013 06:24 AM

SHIT! I took mine in this morning and Edenval toyota know nothing about this update. ARG! Will probably take it to another dealership over the weekend sometime.

Scarl3t 05-31-2013 06:25 AM

It does hey, before i could barely keep up with a GTI, now i smoke them, and also my dad cant pull away from me in his 370Z, he does get of the line quicker, but only manages to stay about 2 car lengths in front, would most defnatly start to pull away from about 215km\h its a V6 good top end

brian_c_m 05-31-2013 07:42 AM

I'm following up like mad now after reading DrSUTRA post. Considering the potential damage to the injectors this should be a high priority for us all. If Mcarthy Edenvale can't help me today, I'll need to find a dealership that can. Any advice from you guys here who know a dealership in Jhb area that have already done this??

Is this the Toyota dealership across from Greenstone?

Vic_RSA 06-03-2013 02:39 AM

Go to Imperial Kempton - not to far from Isando and very 86 savvy - great dealership thus far. They also have the coolant!!! :bonk:

So a 245kw car with a 5.3sec 0-100 is now battling to run away from you? Yoh...

Yeah... quite "Yoh" indeed..
Forgive my skepticism, but not without other things (i.e. a remap and intake/exhaust).
I can believe the GTI - that's not that much quicker, but the 370 sounds a bit "tall" to me.

Yip. That's the one. I called them 2 weeks prior to taking my car in and asked for the software update to be done. They had no knowledge of it promised to follow up. On the morning of taking my car in, they still knew nothing about the software but promised again to look into it. By the afternoon, I gathered the information myself from this thread and sent it to them, Pics and all. When I collected my car I was told, "Oh, thanks for the information... they couldn't find anything on this until I sent them the email with the info." Sigh.:mad0259: Apparently the want to practice on their own 2 86s first and will call me in during the week to do mine...

That's weird, because I sent the Service Manager all the details on 23 May and took my car in today for the upgrade. Will let you know how it went.

Did you deal directly with the Service manager Deon? I agree that the floor guys know almost nothing about these cars, that's why I always deal directly with the managers so it gets the proper attention :D

maybe my car is the test car :confused0068:

Fish Eagle 06-03-2013 11:57 AM

I can't wait - I'm having my software upgraded tomorrow, then I'll be able to wipe out the guy with the F430 I was chatting to on Saturday. :w00t: He's actually got two Ferraris, a black 430 cabrio and a red 360 coupe - drool...

@Scarl3t - I'm sorry mate, if you think you can stay within 2 car lengths of a 370Z, you really must stop smoking that stuff.
It's not legal here yet. :bs:
