Holy crap! That Dyno chart is printed upside down... they should bin it and get a new printer. ;)

Am i reading that correctly: -0.2% torque, +2.6% power?

GeeTee86 07-24-2013 05:32 AM

they must just turn the printer around

Ryan86 07-24-2013 05:48 AM

Turn your tablets around. DOH :paddle:
For some reason pictures invert when pasting from Ipad. I have rotated and still upside down.:slap:
So stand on your head :laughabove:

Looks like the Torque dip is pulled out of a bit earlier, sacrificing a bit of power near the top of the rev range in return.
Either way, the difference is not substantial enough to really notice, I'd say.

my reckoning is that the Torque dip is there for comfortable city driving anyway.
I, of course, don't have to live with it (yet), but when I test drove the 86, that's one of the things I liked - the fact that it doesn't just want to go fast everywhere, but can be calm as well.

Fish Eagle 07-24-2013 07:15 AM

I actually enjoy the schizophrenic nature of this car, and I've got used to either driving calmly below the dip, or like a lunatic above the dip.
It's like an on/off volume switch. Maybe it suits my personality :happyanim:

I'm surprised by Ryan's results (but not disputing them in any way) because I felt a very noticable difference after the software upgrade.

Thinking aloud... I wonder if that's because I rarely drive through the torque dip at WOT, and that I'm sensing a more linear torque delivery at (say) 75% throttle? :iono:

The small curve change in the dip will be noticeable with your bumdyno.
Here is a second dyno run on the same dyno different day.
The upgrade is for the injector spray angle, to prevent seals popping, which creates slight more mid improvement and less or same at top end.

Bear in mind the peak power is at 6800rpm, so you really would not feel loss as you should be changing gear around there before hitting limiter at 7400rpm anyway.

Fish Eagle 07-24-2013 08:42 AM

Ha-ha!! The bumdyno is what's important.
If it feels good, then it IS good. :w00t:

But I'm a bit curious about what I said in my last post - I wonder if the torque dip will be so obvious at a lower throttle opening.
eg: Doing a dyno pull at 75% throttle. Will it show the same picture?
But who cares.... :party0030:

Right now my mission is to fully understand my sticky rubber.
Another day I'll be worrying about more hp, then I'll bolt on an s/c rather than fiddle with the small things.

To make all our lives a bit easier, I've compiled a list of which dealerships do the software update and which don't.

Dealerships that do the update

Dealerships that don't, won't or can't

Thanks

You can add: Imperial Toyota Nelspruit to Mpumalanga, they did mine with no fuss.

They have the update and are happy to do it for anyone.

Apparently it helps with a *ping* on the change of the fuel injectors and slightly improves performance.

My car is in for its 15000 km service today at Market Toyota Culemborg, they didn't know about the update, but are looking at it for me. (Obviously don't like being behind McCarthy)

Will let you know either way if I get mine done.

I'll update it with your new information -- thanks.

Printed all the foto's of "DrSUTRA" posted on page 3 of software update and took it to "Algoa Toyota Uitenhage" They got hold of the software and sorted me out in no time.

Had my update done just over 2 months ago, and it fixed the idle dip problem, but now in the last week I've noticed that it's back again, in the last 2 months it hasn't once dipped, and then on Monday it dipped and everyday since that, any takes?

Ryan86 07-31-2013 02:16 PM

Have you tried resetting your ECU?
Disconnect battery for 1 minute or so!
Have you been using Engen fuel?
