engine mounts for FI

my turbo kit should be done within the next couple weeks, so I'm trying to think of things i didn't think about before, but may need.

would you consider engine mounts to be a must-have for FI? nice to have? i plan to push the 2867r to it's limit on e85, eventually.

Yes.

STI. Perrin. Cusco.

Any reason why stock mounts won't suffice for FI?

Because they were not designed to hold much more than Stock power. They will be ok, but the thing is they will wear out much faster than designed.

Also, you will get a lot of engine movement.

Perrin>cusco, dunno anything about the sti
stock is a bonded design and are soft will work fine but can fail over time and will have lots of movement and slop as you increase your power levels

Anyone want to discuss the differences between these three other than the Vortech sponsored cat we all know and love.

I read reviews between Cusco and Perrin before going with Perrin. The general consensus was that there was a lot of NVH introduced with the Cusco ones while with the Perrin's most reviews say its not bad and after breaking them in you can almost not feel it at all.

I payed more for the Perrin's. Also, I drove the car yesterday briefly and can say I love the way the car felt now. Lots of nice feedback. Maybe its in my head, but I honestly noticed it.

STI = rubber. Cusco and Perrin look similar, probably urethane bushings. Main difference will be NVH. Speaking from owning a set of hardened rubber Group-N engine mounts in the past; the NVH increase will be minimal. The other two will add more NVH in more ranges.

 ....I get no love around here...

Both made a little different. One appears simpler. Others got alot more bends, welds, and places where things *could fail* tho I probably like the fully captive design of the cusco better VS ease of servicing the perrin over the life of the car: I can source the energy suspension bushing very easily, so that was one of my factors in not being sure about Cusco, despite liking the design. Where do you get or order the cusco replacement bush? as a phoenix track car build component, this becomes relevant for me, ymmv

That said, very happy with the perrin mounts at the moment as well

And Vortech dont sponsor me...I push them voluntarily, love their kit and so does everyone who gets in my ride..I aligned with them as a field tester, nothing more.

I'm considering a GB for mounts, i guess Perrin would be the better choice although i can get both. I can get the new Cusco oil cooler too so i can do Perrin mounts/oil cooler and Cusco mounts/oil cooler.

Thoughts?

jamesm 04-16-2013 04:01 PM

i was thinking of an oil cooler as well. i'm thinking i might to the cusco(?) water cooled one and add a koyo with it.

pmccut 04-18-2013 02:46 AM

I'm in for Perrin engine mount GB. Not sure I'd get much use out of an oil cooler in NorCal.

Loving my Cusco mounts... They're are supposedly stiffer than the Perrin's- in fact, I drove Pure Automotive's car which has the Perrins and there's a noticeable difference. The Cusco mounts are effective and necessary for FI. It really gives that "racecar" feeling.

How about Kartboy?
