NEED HELP!!!

Hello guys,

I was wondering if anyone here knew/had any experience with changing windows.
The reason im asking is because my moms car just got broken into while she was at work. They smashed the window in and took her purse.
My question is will i be better off taking it to a body shop (maaco) or just ordering the window and DIY? is this even possible as a DIY project (special tools/ equipment needed)?

the car is a 2010 rouge and it was only the front passenger window. as of now we have not contacted the insurance company (only police report) since im sure the the cost will be less than the deductible ($500) and i dont want to risk the price raise.

any help will be greatly appreciated and the faster the better since my mom works as an ESE teacher at a high school in a bad neighborhood.

thanks

Roy.

Are you sure that it would require a deductible? Normally glass repaires are free, assuming you have glass coverage, which just about everyone does. I'd look into that first before you do anything else, just talking to an agent about it probably won't raise the rates any. When my windshield got a crack, they replaced it for free as part of my coverage, I don't see why side or rear windows would be any different.

my mom wont report it for fear of a rate increase.

and i called 'on behalf of' her and they said they could only give that info out to the primary policy holder.

I don't think removing windows is terribly difficult, but YMMV depending on how much room you have to work in the door and how much you value arm flesh. Unsure about a 2010 Rogue, but all the windows I've worked on could be removed with basic hand tools and maybe a partner.

I had the free glass coverage until they told me the replacement was at their discretion and wanted to put Safelite junk in. But tell your mom not to leave her purse or anything valuable in the car in a bad neighborhood, and just leave the doors unlocked. If someone really wants in, they'll get in regardless of locks.

So if a rock hit her windshield she wouldn't tell them to claim a glass repair which she pays for in her insurance because she thinks there's a conspiracy to raise her rates? I know people are nervous about raising rates but come on, you pay for glass repair coverage for a reason, what's the point of insurance if you won't let them fix your car.

trust me i tried telling her that but she's stubborn.

anyway everything is good now, our neighbors friend who works at a bodyshop replaced it for 130 (glass + installation).

thanks for the help
