DRL on Subaru BRZ

hi,

guys.. i am from Indonesia and i need help.. i need to know about Subaru BRZ DRL.. do they always ON ? when you start driving/start your engine/handbrake down ?

because my 86 here, the LED strips will not ON (even in Auto mode) unless i click the lamp switch it once more (driving light)

i believe that these LED strips serve as DRL.. hence they will always ON didn't they ?

i have tried checked and search, but what i find are FR-S DRL turning off/techstream but can't do anything about enabling LED strips to be always ON..

thank you all..

I'm sorry, but why do people always seem to want to turn off the DRL's?

dokterdewe 04-14-2013 11:49 PM

but i want to have the LED strips ALWAYS turned ON..

yea the drl's (at least here in the US) turn on as soon as you release the parking break, or in an auto when you take it out of park. They only turn off once the headlights are turned on

When you say DRL are you referring to the C shaped light inside the headlight or the bar above the fog light?

I would imagine that your DRLs are controlled in the ecu no different than us in the USA. It is possible that your country has requirements about DRLs and they may have been turned off from the factory. Just a guess.

I hate to say this as I try to avoid dealerships like the plague. But, I would check with your dealership. they may be able to set your DRLs to always be on. In the same way I had the dealership turn mine off.

He's got an FR-S and I think he wants to keep the DRL's on all the time like the BRZ in daytime. (The FR-S only has a bulb for the DRL's doesn't it and not the LED's?) I think the BRZ DRL's go off once you turn on the parking lights or the headlights.

As i understand it, the FR-S only exists in USA, but I see his Avatar showing a FRS or Toyota 86.

OP: if you are referring to the LED strip inside the Headlights, we have no way to control it, and ours work just like you said, they are only on when we click the light stack one position after off. This is true for the BRZ and the Toyota 86. The FRS does not have that strip inside the headlight.

See below pics for the BRZ:

See below image for the BRZ LED Strip, I believe this LED strip is the one you are trying to have always on. Those are not the car's DRL's

See below image, that strip above the fog lights are the BRZ DRL's.

I've tried this and their techstream didn't have the option to turn it on... maybe theirs was outdated ?!

There is no easy way to do it. There HAS to be a way of doing it re-wiring itto an ignition power source so that they turn on all the time while the car is on, but that's the only way.

it is for Scion FR-S whom retrofitted JDM 86 HID headlights... it stated that LED strip will always ON.. what do you think ??

In that case, they re-wired.

The problem you will have following that DIY, is that your car is an 86, so your connectors and cable routing might be a little different. Your DRL's are in the bumper right? You need to re-wire the LED's to be powered with the same source as your DRL's. You would need to either take it to a good experienced mecahnic, or read the 86 wiring manual to figure out exactly which cables need to be run.

we don't have any part in front lighting with DRL's enabled here.. even Subaru BRZ didn't have the strip LED above foglamp.. means that for every front lights to be ON we have click it..

i will look for a wiring diagram..
