Any NY'ers install catless front pipe?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a front pipe and am a little concerned with emissions.

Since we have to get smogged the car may not pass with only 1 cat.

Does any1 have any experience with removing 1 of 2 cats?

If they do a visual inspection, you're gonna fail even with a cat, since you're not supposed to replace any factory part that has emissions control on it. The front pipe, as you know, is where the secondary cat is.

Most NYS inspection facilities don't do a visual though, and simply rely on the OBD2 to report on the emissions system. Since the O2 sensor is before the secondary cat (in the factory headers), removing the secondary cat downstream from that should not affect the OBD2 reading.

Even if they were to perform a sniffer test, I believe the primary cat would do a sufficient job to pass, but YMMV. I'm not sure if NYS relies on a sniffer anywhere.

Thanks Foobar. I'm not too worried about the visual. Just really the OBDII

as long as CEL doesnt show up, should be able to pass. unless they do visual inspection

I have a perrin resonated catback now.

It sounds good and maybe a little on the quiet side, but I dont think I can drive around with a crazy loud car nowadays.

Prob just gonna keep bolts ons and a tune for now.

I'm gettin old! (30) And I need to maintain somewhat professional appearance for work too.

If it wasn't my daily driver I would make it loud as F*ck.

i have the invidia catless front pipe and the invidia n1 system.
when i was at No Limit they reminded me that the 1st year inspection should not cause any issues with the front catless pipe... so i should enjoy 2 full carefree years.

the price difference of the catted and catless was the decision factor in the front pipe.. but i think without the cat i get a better exhaust note and more power? (less restriction)

my 1st inspection is coming up for june... so we will see what happens. i have the stock front pipe if needed to replace

If you put a header on, you need to get a Tune, if you need to get a tune, then you can just have them tune out the CEL and make sure the readiness tests are complete. :)

I passed with a catless front pipe. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're throwing a code.
