Redline shifting

How bad is it if you redline shift your car? Like going 2-3hundred past redline then shifting?

Try it. You'll find the rev limiter will stop you from overreving.

I do it on most my shifts and I have my rev limiter at 8k. Probably not the best for longevity, had 23,000 on my last frs and it was still pulling hard.

doing it every now and then won't harm your engine in significant terms; however, if you do this everyday for prolonged periods of time then I would believe that your engine's longevity would be compromised..

I've probably redlined my car once every 3 weeks. There's really no reason to unless you're doing it out of shear joy pulling onto a highway. Just like any other engine, if this is something you consistently do, you won't see your engine lasting as long, but it is okay to do occasionally. Rev limiters are in place for a reason.

I cant help but get on it alot, i try so hard not to. I do not bring it up to redling everyday though , in fact very rarely you can have fun in the car without the need for it. Out factory redlines are kinda low compared to some people that have changed it, you should be safe. Its actually good top open a car up from time to time , keeps fluids moving , prevents gunk build up, cleans out the system.

AKA, Italian tune-up.

I've been doing that whenever I want go the fastest like when im cruising with my friends.

I redlined everything I ever owned that I bought used with over 150 000 KM and never busted an engine, hitting the rev limiter sucks, don't do it.

For those that have raised the redline to 8k, myself included, it should be done solely so you don't hit the rev limiter when shifting right at 7400. Power drops drastically at redline so the only advantage of raising it is not hitting the rev limiter if you're a little late with a shift.

I think the more important thing to remember when driving ANY car hard is making sure its properly warmed up to operating temp before driving it hard. Once its up to temp and you are driving it hard, keep an eye on the gauges. If it starts to get too hot, take it easy. I always keep an eye on the oil temp in this car. Lastly, proper maintenance is a must if you want your car to hold up to the abuse for years to come.

Maintain it and warm it up, then redline all you want. If you want to go 10k between oil changes then don't drive it hard everyday. If you don't mind increased wear and tear maintenance then do those two things and your car will be fine.

The power curve ends at 7,000 RPM. Anything after that is slowing you down. For the most efficient, fastest acceleration, shift at 7,000.

Just because power is tapering off doesn't mean you should shift early.

If you look at how much power it's making where the RPM's land after the shift, and take into account the longer ratio it's definitely better to shift at redline in these cars. The torque multiplication factor of the gear you're in will definitely be putting more power to the road at redline than the next longer gear will be at peak power.

There is a reason for the redline.
