New Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors?
I have someone who wants to buy my stock wheels. They still contain the TPMS sensors, but I don't mind parting with them as long as I can replace those sensors on the future...
Does anyone know if the computer for the TPMS on the FR-S can take in new sensors? Any crazy amount of programming involved? Average cost? Thanks in advance! |
Yes new TPMS sensors can be programmed to your vehicle. Each vehicle uses a specific type and model. The programming can be done by most reputable tire shops. To be honest the dealer can probably get them at a high cost. I dont know if there are any Discount Tire stores in NJ but they carry all kinds of TMPS sensors and have the ability to order ones that they dont have, cheaper than a dealer would charge.
Programming the TPMS sensors require an external scanning tool that mates the sensors with the car. These tools are really expensive and therefore only tire companies usually carry them. I would try someone like Tire Rack (they carry the sensors) and have it programmed at your dealership. Takes 5 mins or less. (reference: I was a Discount Tire Manager for 3 years) |

I have a related Q. Would FRS A's sensors work on FRS B? Or are there different "codes" I guess to say, in different vehicles.

curious question, is a must to replace the sensor? or i can just let it be, the light on my dash aint bothering me that much
|
Depends on how much the light will annoy you. I pulled the sensors out of my stock wheels when I put the snow tires on them and drove all winter with the light on without issue.
When I was looking it was ~$300 for the set of sensors, plus anywhere local wanted $50 each time I swapped wheels just to program the ECU for the "new" sensors. I might revisit it when I need new snows, but for now I'm fine with the light. |
awesome. as long as there is not issue thn why waste 300+ for the sensor :)

+1 for getting them from America's Tire/ Discount Tire. They swapped and reprogrammed mine on my G when the batteries died and were much cheaper than any of the other shops and dealerships I contacted.
