Tyger Valley.
He didn't sound as enthusiastic as Ryan86 (about stock levels).

AAAAAAND that just got sent to my dealership. Maybe they can trade my yet-to-be made one for one of those... we'll see what they say.

Ryan86 04-12-2013 05:30 AM

What color you looking for and spec.

I just called the dealership in Swakopmund.
Swapping "from stock" is a PITA to say the least, since they have to handle double transportation, export, import, vat claims, etc.
As such, they try to swap "from production" rather, meaning that they look at the production line, see what's coming up, and call the destination dealership, offering a trade.

That explanation makes sense to me.

For example, I know that in the next few weeks, Imperial Bedfordview, Imperial Randburg, McCarthy Empangeni and NTT Barberton are getting STD spec Satin white pearl standard ones (like I ordered).

The good news is that according to the dealership, Toyota SA has forecast the sale of mine for June, meaning that delivery should happen sometime then.

I do feel that this thread is valuable, though... simply because I know there's a few people on here looking and waiting, and inside the borders, swaps like that are easy.

Dude, cars are available you just have to do the leg work.

But since you decided to go for the GTi maybe the 86 wouldn't suit your requirements. These 2 are poles apart in every way.

Yes and No.
The thing is, there's a certain degree of "cool" in getting YOUR car. The one YOU ordered.
The dealerships/dealer network are f***ing some of us around BADLY in terms of waiting lists, and once you cross borders (like in my case, where I have been waiting for a white STD manual 86 since December, and have yet to get a PRODUCTION date), it becomes a real, royal PITA to get your hands on one.

To be Honest, I am scared shitless of importing one, since it's a well documented that our dealerships get full of nonsense when you import ANYTHING (same with Volvo, BMW, and most other brands. The notable exception here is Mercedes, who don't care). This is due to Japanese imports are legal here.

I have been in contact with Barloworld Tygerberg, and am waiting for them to call me to explain how EXACTLY such an import would work.

Anyway... enough about that... If I were in SA, I'd also be shopping around. Doesn't change the fact that CLEARLY, some dealerships have a way to shortcut the waiting list, where others are being shafted.
