Are these cars rock/debris magnets?

Seriously, does the body create some sort of super-vortex that draws in road debris? I've had a few Miatas and never experienced anything like this. I'll be lucky to have any paint (or unscathed windshield) left after another year of DD duty. Is it just me?

Not sure where you are driving it, but I haven't noticed anything different then any other car I have owned. No excessive wear or anything like that. Maybe analyze your routes and weather and figure out the best way to handle it. I would suggest looking into a clear 3M bra or something to help protect.

i already have 4 dent/scratches on my front bumper from debris... :(

shiumai 04-09-2013 01:01 AM

i had clear bra installed on the front bumper, headlights, fog lights and side mirrors 2 days after i bought the car, based on what i had seen on my previous car (front air dam looked like the milky way after 10 years of daily driving). clear bar is totally worthit IMHO.

This! The paint sucks! I got three little rock chips in the first week. I drive REALLY far back from other cars. Just nature of the beast, I guess. Oh well :burnrubber:

Ledippen 04-09-2013 01:33 AM

I got long Scratches about an inch from driving where debris hit the side. the paint on this car scratch to easily my 240sx has tougher paint than this.

LeeMaster 04-09-2013 02:44 AM

My car had two big chip the second day of owning it even though I stayed as far back as possible from cars in front of me. I highly recommend you get a clear bra if you want the car to retain that new look.

I use to drive an 06 TSX and the front bumper eventually had a lot of silver dots all over the front bumper and eventually started to show rust on the fender and hood area. I didnt want my new baby to suffer like what my previous one had to suffer, that was my motivation to get the clear bra....

SloS14 04-09-2013 08:35 AM

I've got the clear bra (all of them). It's probably already paid for itself. I've gotten 3 chips in the windshield this week already. Unfortunately the only other route to work would add another 30 minutes.

The paint does seem incredibly shitty.

How much did the clear bra cost you guys to get put on?

I bought the car used with low-miles. It's got more bra than Christina Hendricks

Rayme 04-09-2013 09:41 AM

Nope. Been through a harsh 6 month winter and my paint is looking like new.

Clembo 04-09-2013 10:30 AM

It's not just these, it's most all cars these days. New paint systems to keep down the VOCs, both saving the environment and saving costs, don't do much for saving our cars.

Our 08 Corolla with 50K+ miles still looked pristine at trade-in time while our 2011 Corolla (same silver) is covered with chips at 6K miles. And being retired now, we don't even drive the 11 in crappy weather.

When a gnat's exoskeleton is harder than your car's paint, you can't win.

just drive and repaint
