Update!! My SQ build by Simplicity in Sound |Illusion Audio|Mosconi|Arc|Audiomobile|

Update, video walkthrough of install :)

[u2b][ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KP67biB4uo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KP67biB4uo[/ame][/u2b]

Hey all,

So after waiting for a long long time, my car is finally getting the system done next week. I have exchanged many texts and emails with Bing, and originally we were going with a wideband front stage. Well, as the installation schedule approaches, we had discussed this in greater details and I am now getting an active 2 way front stage setup instead.

As for the trunk, my goal is to maintain the spare tire, maintain the backseat passthrough, and take up as little room in the trunk as possible, so we have decided to do a custom 8" enclosure in the corner (simplicity in sound might make this available to ft86club.com forum members in the future). With no false floors, the logical place to mount the amps would be a custom amp rack that is directly underneathe the rear deck. Once again, the original goal was to utilize the Mosconi One amplifiers but we soon realized there is no way to fit 3 of those under the rear deck so we have decided to go with Arc Audio instead.

So here is the equipment list:

Front Stage:

tweeters: Illusion Audio carbon c6 beryllium tweeters in stock dash location

midbass: Illusion audio carbon c6 6.5" drivers into doors

Power for the front staqe will be as follow:

1 Arc Audio KS 125.4 mini bridged sending 250 watts @ 4 ohms to each tweeter

1 Arc Audio KS 125.4 mini bridged down to 2 channels, sending 250 watts to the midbass

Subwoofer:

1 Audiomobile Elite 8" subwoofer, powered by 1 Arc Audio KS125.2 amplifier bridged with 250 watts @ 4 ohms

Since this is an SQ build, everything will be tuned with a Mosconi 6to8 digital signal processor.

I will update this thread with in-progress pictures during next week, and I am sure Bing will complete a build log as well =)

Meanwhile if you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Update 4/18/2013

Car all done and picked up. I'm very happy :)

Beautiful and artistic sub enclosure (notice the attention to detail: custom pressed metal grill, carbon fiber fabric wrapped trim ring, decorative black vinyl design, and durable carpet):

Damn that must have put a dent in the wallet , mind posting $?

Brian,

What widebanders were you looking at? The Audible Physics NzA Duo's are going to be what I put in my ride. You'll have to let me know how those Arc Audio amps work out for you. I think their Zeff designed which should be an indication of their quality. Wish I lived closer to Bing. His work is outstanding.

Hey Skip,

Thanks. Originally, Bing recommended the Audio Physics XR3M as my widebander choice, which I believe is the older version of the NzA. However, since they stopped production with the XR3M, Bing says the newer version sounded harsh and it is hard to tune. If Bing carries Hybrid Audio, I would definitely look into the LS3E's :)

I would say about 60 to 70% of Bing's current builds, he recommends Mosconi amps. I too believe the Arc Audio minis will perform very nicely, especially briding the KS125.4 to power the midbass. The reason why I am going with the Arc minis instead of the Mosocni is mostly space constraints, but at the same time, I figure that probably means I save a little bit of money too, since they are great value for what they are. Those Mosconi amps are very nice, but you are paying a premium for euro/dollar conversion and importing them from Italy hehe.

I wasnt planning to run 3 amplifiers but I'll just leave it up to Bing to work his magic.

Hehe definitely not your typical budget install, but I will let you contact Bing directly regarding cost since prices could vary for each customer, depending on the deals that Bing could get at the time, and also other minor variables. His username on here is simplicityinsound.

You can find most of the equipment's MSRP online. Here is a breakdown/eaiser to read list of equipment:

1x Illusion Audio Carbon C6 component
1x Mobile Audio Elite 2208 8" subwoofer
2x Arc Audio KS Mini 125.4 4 channel amplifier
1x Arc Audio KS Mini 125.2 2 channel amplifier for sub
1x Mosconi 6to8 DSP

Various wires, sound deadening, etc

Oh and I have a Pioneer AVH-x5500BHS head unit which is not really part of the cost of this build :)

labor cost/man hour for this project is roughly a full week, if that helps :)

Looking good!! all high end equipment.. install looked pretty good too.. mind telling the forum members how much did this install cost?

carstereoguys 04-07-2013 08:18 PM

That's job was 7600 out the door. This was his 4th car we did for this guy.... So we always help him out. It took me and my main installer about 3 days to finish. The acrylic alone was about 300 so it actually wasnt to bad.

How does the imaging & soundstage sound with the dash speakers firing straight up?

carstereoguys 04-07-2013 10:23 PM

The sound in this car is very dynamic. Time alignment would be needed for imaging, but it really depends on the customers budget. We chose with this customer to spend more of the budget on fabrication, and less on running it active with time alignment. That's pretty much why we only use focal speakers. The TN53K tweeter with the inverted done, precisely engineered waveguide and diffuser makes a dash mount sound amazing.

this will be a great install, I will keep my eye on it.

Bing/simplicityinsound has done one build for me previously:

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...retention.html

amazing result. we went with focal components and arc amps as well. and what was probably the very last stereo integrity sub available in the world. I think I miss that sub more than I miss the Z. go figure.

congrats on the coming build.

Hi Brian,

Yes, I have seen your car on diymobileaudio and Bing did mention briefly about you when I chatted with him :) I love how Bing utilizes the mini stripe of real estate to mount your arc xdi amps. I was hoping the same can happen with the FRS but alas the Arc minis are too big for that spot right above the spare tire :( Wish I had a chance to hear your stereo integrity sub.. did you get all your equipment out of your Z, and are you planning on an install on your new car?

I'm getting an install from Bing done in May... this is making me super excited. Can't wait to see how your build turns out. :)

simplicityinsound 04-15-2013 08:27 PM

as you can plainly see, all three amps have been installed ;) :D
