Manual or Auto?

What will you be getting? I drive in bad traffic every day for 1.5-2 hours so will probably get an auto. I have enough fun in my auto TC, and I have a motorcycle for shifting fun.

Also wondering how much faster you guys think the Manual with be over the Auto? Are the paddle shifters supposed to help at all?

Manual for me. Car will be daily and weekend drift car so no other option. I prefer manual anyways.

Ill guess, depending upon the drover, the manual will be quicker off the line than the automatic. But probably just like most cars and itll only be a tenth of a second difference or so.

thanks for the input. since i don't street-race or track, other than than being a little less "manly" i guess i don't see much of a need for a manual. i can use the paddles for some "faux" shifting like i do in my TC. it's silly, but it's fun.

Yeah and the automatic sounds like a solid transmission too. The downshift rev matching is cool too.

That's it. People who treat the manual/auto issue as if it's a matter of whether your balls have dropped yet are typically thickos and knock-off watch buyers.

Personally I have no interest in an automatic version of this car, but if someone is in your situation it's perfectly understandable :-)

The autobox automatically does this (http://www.drivingfast.net/car-contr...#axzz1jPnQk8yn and http://www.drivingfast.net/car-contr...#axzz1jPnQk8yn) for you. The bright coloured examples being with a manual transmission obviously.

awesome. i usually downshift to "3" in my TC on curves/turns to get some extra speed and control around corners. ton of fun.

Really another fucking topic about transmission? This is the most tired out topic on here. SEARCH. There are at least 5-6 threads on this topic. Can we get this thread locked.

I have severe knee problems, and was considering another VW for the DSG, but this car is too good to pass up. That said Im gonna man up and get the MT, as Im not familiar with this AT, and it has paddles but not dual clutches so that kinda scares me a little...

StevenDavisPhoto 01-26-2012 12:44 AM

ah "man up". the phrase that got me wasted in college way too often ;)
