"bullshit!" as long as you are accelerating "smoothly" in ANY gear at ANY particular (r.p.m.) you will not have to be concerned. the engine will not be stressed.if you DON'T spin it up,you are NOT lugging the engine,again, as long as you are accelerating "smoothly" where the f**k did you hear that nonsense?

what the f**k is wrong with driving this car normally?.if it's an everyday driver then it CAN be driven sanely,and you will be ok! (w.t.f!)

key is to get into "overdrive" (6th gear) as quickly as possible,WITHOUT
lugging the engine.generally somewhere around 35,or 40 should do it on most cars. this is where your best (m.p.g.) will be realized.
'sometimes" keeping the car in "direct drive" (one to one) "5th" will give better (m.p.g.),than ANY power gear,however it's 'still"
best to drive in 6th most of the time if conditions allow.

Its all good. I've just learned from my mistakes driving like an idiot on public streets. When I was 25 I decimated my BEAUTIFUL, black 1968 Camaro SS 327 showing off my MAD SKILLZ YO! A day I will truly regret for the rest of my life. By the time I was 25 I had 10 years of HPDE, TT, and a little club thrown in and one lapse of judgment was all it took.

15 years later you won't catch me taking any unnecessary risks on the street. I hear these internet "Ken Blocks" talking like they are the end-all authority on how to drive all the time. When they finally DO crash, they are always the ones to start off the story on how "it wasn't my fault".

understood! no amount of track training can compensate for good old fashioned common sense.years and years of just driving ''stick" on the street allows you to coordinate your skills ,generally, WITHOUT even thinking about it, that's how "GOOD" you get after 40 years,and it's just another reason why,i can NEVER bring myself to buy a ''slush" box.
hopefully,as long as i am able,i can continue to be "sharp" for years to come,although that "manual" slush in the frs is callin' my name! (ouch!)

So because I don't redline the car and keep it above 3k rpm when running to the shops I'm driving a sports car wrong? Very interesting. For what it's worth I do, in fact, drive my car plenty hard and it certainly hits the redline quite often. That said, I also enjoy to hypermile when not hooning (as it's fun and I like getting close to 400 miles out of every tank). I also said in my post that I do that when there is NO engine load, as in going on a slight decline or maintaining speed.

But hey, we each have our own driving style and mine seems to work quite well so needn't we worry about which gear we cruise in.

This. If I'm just cruising or in traffic I like to keep it below 2,000rpm. It really makes a huge difference. It is also helpful to accelerate at a brisk pace to get up to speed then maintain it there (Road & Track wrote an article on how to get good mileage a while back and this tip does make a difference).

Beyond that I try to coast, or leave it in gear as long as possible to either use no gas or very little. It also helps to read the traffic lights so you know how much to accelerate/coast. Using all those tips I've been able to drive up to 12,000 feet hit up windy roads/city driving and still get 415 miles to the tank averaging 38mpg on the tank.

this is ''dead nuts " accurate! with emphasis on NOT worrying about WHAT gear you are in,again,so long as you are NOT "lugging" the engine,that's your main concern.

keeping it in 6th (overdrive) most of the time will get you those results,as well as taking it out of gear and coasting to lights if possible,but truthfully,THAT can be a giant (p.i.t.a.)
