Hands Free and the radio system
Hi, All.
In an effort to try and be a good new member I browsed around for a while, and couldn't find an answer to this. Coming from a Fiat Bravo with Blue&Me installed (basically a Hands free kit with voice commands for the radio/USB device), I have to ask: Does the 86 Standard come with a hands free system? The ZA Toyota website is a bit on the rubbish side in terms of this kind of information. I know Toyota does make a unit like that, and I'd like to spec it in if needed when my (ordered in December, no build date yet) white one finally ships. also: iPod/iPhone support? I know it has a USB cable there, but does that support iPhone/iPods for music? Apologies if this has been answered somewhere before... |
No it doesn't, but it does come with iPod and USB inputs. The standard radio is rubbish though, many of us have elected to install an aftermarket navigation system.
|
The OEM radio didn't play nicely with my iPhone. It really is rubbish.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
Any threads where aftermarket options are discussed that I missed? What's important to me is that I have hands free without a headset. The rest I am not too worried about - especially not a nav unit. Namibia doesn't need nav units beyond google maps, and even that worked a charm last time I was in CT. |
a few ppl on the SA forum have opted for the parrot asteroid smart:

Parrot FTW!!!!! Installed Google Maps/Nav and it's great.

I've ordered the unit that Toyota recommended and will check it out and give feedback in a week when I get my car, but honestly at a couple grand cheaper you might as well go Parrot Asteroid in my opinion.
|
Eish, what brand? There is no aftermarket Toyota approved radio.
The only radio you could officially get from Toyota is the Land Cruiser 79(I think) one. |

Thanks, yeah I know about Motor One, they have absolutely zero affiliation with Toyota. Ordered or not, I'd ask them to cancel and refund your money.
Besides, they're not fitted at the factory, the car comes to the dealer with the OEM radio then the new one gets fitted after the fact. No reason not to be able to cancel. |
Yeah, it's just a convenience order, not a Toyota part by any means. I just feel guilty since I made them order it already and it's sitting with them and I know they will have a hard time selling it to someone else at that price.
