New Zealand bare-bones spec 86

This article on NZ Yahoo spoke to a Toyota NZ product spokesman who hints at there being a base model stripped out 86 to attract younger buyers "The distributor has identified the model would really have to sit in the mid-$30,000 zone."

Myself in that category having recently graduated from uni and just started working, I emailed Toyota NZ registering my interest in that particular model. They replied confirming they are giving the model serious consideration (they warned it may well not have air conditioning!) and that a member of the product team may be ringing me soon to ask me some questions.

If it could be around $35000 NZD as speculated in the article then I will definitely be an early adopter. I don't need air-con its not like my current car has it so i wont be missing anything, plus its not Cairns or Perth kind of weather in Christchurch. if it is the 'RC' spec model as released in Japan recently, i don't really mind rolling steels and unpainted bumpers til i can afford to do anything about it. Otherwise i'd wait for a JDM used import one a couple years later...

I got quite excited when reading this! But I must admit lately I've been opting more towards getting the GT or GT-L (full spec) for no other reason then having all the bells & whistles. But...

It mentions "50kish" (NZ$) for the central 86 models. Yikes! :confused0068:

Then I see the first link states the MX-5 in NZ starts at $51k, which starts at 41.5k in Aus. I guess thats an expected price to ask for an up-spec 86, but well above my budget

A bare-boned 86 at low A$30's however... Hmm...

I definately want a Fully loaded version of this car!The TRD Version is a definate for me.
Would the $50K package one be with the TRD kits or just featurewise and then we would have to buy the TRD kits seperate? Definately want the full digital gauges for the temp dial as we saw in the earlier model that should come in the fully loaded version

Hope the $50K package gets the TRD kit as well.Hope Toyota NZ gives us the full options to choose from.

M so excited about this! CMon Toyota NZ. GO GO Go!!!
