And TAX! How much tax did you pay on your car? $2500?? And the dealer fees so besides the deprecation you loose over $3000 on top of that. My guess is that total lose will be about $6000.

You must be young

I guess NY taxes are high. They are only 6% in Florida and you only pay on the difference between the trade-in value and the new car value. A few hundred bucks for this scenario. Are taxes really that much where you live?

This is the best advise. Honestly, it doesn't matter what Trans you have, what car you have, it is the matter of what you like, how do you drive. You can drive a GTR, and cruising 65mph on the highway all day long, just to prove that you are wealthy, and your life is successful. Or you can drive a 2002 Civic SI like a Maniac, Racing with every chance you have on the street, paying so many Fines, tickets, and enjoying your College life, the life that whenever someone is in the passenger seat of your Civic SI will be like "Holy F, you are gonna get us killed, slow down!"

Whichever floats your boat, do not listen to other people comments, or demands, they can earn it their own.

In my experience, I had been through it, and I chose the way of being successful, invest money into longer term, be smart, graduate college, save traffic tickets for better insurance purchase, and ready to take care of a family.

The best thing I enjoy in life For Example = able to afford what you like the most (FRS ?), trying to get what you love (Ferrari ?) Provide the best for your family...a Luxury BMW X6 ?

Oh, and did I tell you about my mate who commented on my old Camry, and driving his SI like a maniac ? He is now working in Walmart as a cashier, got his 350z, still driving like a maniac. I am much different than that.

Choose wisely. Enjoy what you love, everyone only have one life, don't waste it.

Thanks, I appreciate your comment (and others).

I realize this wasn't a good financial decision, but either was buying the car in the first place ;). It would have been better to just get an old reliable honda/camry for 10k but I wanted the fr-s and I can afford to do so.

I've made the decision, and don't regret it one bit. I was cross shopping with cars much more expensive, and I like this car much more than those cars. So, I look at it as this is even better so it doesn't hurt me so much for paying more on taxes/depreciation.

But yes, its still silly and I did take a hit (however smaller than I thought).

EDIT: Also I don't get it when people "buy cars to show off" or "buy cars because status"... If I wanted to I wouldn't have bought an fr-s anyway lol. For the same price, I could get a used 370z, porsche, corvette, even a used ferrari. But I went with the fr-s - I think that's a more "reasonable" decision!

Thanks for all the awesome answers, guys!

Anyway this topic is pretty much done because I went to Toyota Temecula and they traded in my argento auto fr-s for a new asphalt manual fr-s.

I bought my FR-S at Toyota of Temecula too. Who did you speak to? My agent was Sal Rosalez with Paris as his partner. I found this dealership to have excellent customer service and they have plenty of FR-S's available.

I can't see this car being fun in Automatic because I love it in Manual. I'm so glad you love the switch. :)

Good to hear!

Yes, they are a great dealership IMO. And there's still 1 manual silver fr-s (loaded with scion goodies) and about 4 a/t fr-s on the lot last I saw. They were just sitting there, I almost felt bad they weren't getting driven lol.

I forget my finance manager's name (I've actually had two now...), but I think my new one is "Tod" or something rather. He was super nice and a good happy fellow. Other finance manager more mature but still very nice. My sales rep has consistently been Hunter he's really good never pushy on anything

Good service all around for sure! In a few years, if I go toyota for my Wife's next car (she wants a Prius so, probably will ;)) I will definitely be buying from them again!

EDIT: Oh and the auto is definitely still fun, just not as much fun ;)

I completely agree. If I ever buy another Toyota I will definitely go through them. It may be a drive for me, but it's worth it.

I tell all my friends or whomever is interested in buying an FR-S to go there because they have such a high stock.

Happy Driving!

wow at the poll results. guess the statistics are true (about 50% of FR-S and auto and the other 50% is manual natch, and on the BRZ its 70 something% manual and 20 something auto)
