find out how much you would be losing and then decide if the manual is worth that much. its probably better to to it before the 2014 is out in case the model year depreciates

As others have mentioned, manual mode on the AT FR-S is great. It's super quick and responsive and is definitely an option if you want to get more of a manual experience without losing a couple thousand dollars.
Personally I'm very happy with my AT FR-S as I can play around with it when I want to and not be miserable in traffic (well, you know what I mean). |

It would be a stupid decision to lose money on a trade in for a M/T car, if the loss is going to be excessive. It feels like at least a $5000 hit if you were to trade it in on a new MT car, and that's just hilariously out of the question for me. Just don't do it. Options:
1) Post somewhere that you want to do a trade for a M/T car of similar mileage, and see what pops up. 2) Put it in manual mode and use paddle shifting exclusively. 3) Leave it in auto mode and pretend to row the shifter while pumping your left foot on the dead pedal. In my opinion, if the financial hit is excessive, then it is simply not worth it. It's not like the car is a completely POS with an AT, it's just less involving to drive than a MT but nonetheless still the same car underneath. edit: I just took a look at the poll results so far. Yes http://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar2-l.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar2.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar2-r.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/clear.gif 64 52.46% No, keep the a/t http://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar3-l.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar3.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar3-r.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/clear.gif 32 26.23% Keep the a/t, sell later down the road http://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar4-r.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/clear.gif 19 15.57% Keep the a/t, do a manual swap later down the road http://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar5-l.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar5.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/images/polls/bar5-r.gifhttp://www.ft86club.com/forums/clear.gif 7 5.74% 64 people say to take a big financial hit for no other reason than to get a M/T car. That's more than double those who voted for you to keep the A/T, and of those only the 2nd and 3rd options are actually viable. If the hit was like... $1000 - $1500, that's really not bad if you want to be happy. But I'm thinking the hit is a hell of a lot higher than that. Think of it this way. Somewhere out there, there's a salesman who could use your $5000 in his bank account. All you have to do is go over there and do it. |
yeah! give the sales guy a break! food's goin' up
man likes to eat. don't f**k around with that, you WILL lose too much scratch as others have said, and they are right!.you might try this!..everytime you drive it, tell yourself,ya got a ''stick" by driving it in manual mode using shift lever.to be honest,in time it will just be an "event phsycological" and of little concern, because of the 'fun" nature of the car! |
Thanks for all the awesome answers, guys!
Anyway this topic is pretty much done because I went to Toyota Temecula and they traded in my argento auto fr-s for a new asphalt manual fr-s. I love the color and I'm soo much more happy with the transmission now! Took me a while but I almost have it down smoothly going to go out again tomorrow/this weekend to perfect my smooth starts :D And if anybody is on the fence this car just comes alive with the manual so much more than the auto! Its weird! If I ever drove the m/t before the auto I would've gotten the m/t for sure. Engine & exhaust sound much better and the shifter is phenomenal. And it definitely pulls better. I still stick to my assessment that the auto is a great auto but I gotta say the manual adds so much more to the experience IMO. Auto is wonderful in that it lets you keep your hands on the wheel at all times (steering feel in this car is really great) and that it lets you cruise in town but for performance & just feel factor manual wins in my book :D. Anyway thanks everybody for the replies and everything. I'm just happy I got this done now and not regretted it even more later! I was only down about ~2k I can barely believe that. |
Congrats!
Good choice! #YOLO |
Glad to hear you didn't take a huge financial burden on the trade-in!
