Affordable vacuum?

I happened to be at AutoZone last week and saw a car vac that was $40-50. I thought that's not bad but assume I could find something better. A cord/plug is fine with me. Is there a good quality vac for under $70 or so? Thanks to anyone with knowledge.

Captain_Awesome_Pants 04-02-2013 09:50 AM

Sorry, can you be specific as to the type you're looking for? Like a portable vehicle vac or more stationary shop vac?

swift996 04-02-2013 10:04 AM

Sorry, a stationary shop vac. I don't need anything industrial strength, just something that will suck up dirt.

I never liked cigarette lighter powered vacuum cleaners. It's better to wait to get home and use a wall powered one if it's disturbing enough.

Just get a Shop-Vac of your choosing. I bought a Shop-Vac Mini Hang Up and it's a tiny little thing. It was great in my apartment where I didn't have a lot of storage, and while I've been thinking about getting a larger one it does just fine for vacuuming my car and takes up very little space. I also used it to suck a LOT of water out of the rear floorboards of a vehicle with leaking sunroof hoses. The only downside to it is with big jobs you'll have to dump the canister more often.

Actually this is what replaced the model I have. More power, bigger canister. I paid less than half that when I got mine on sale though.

A couple of people I know got a decent one from harbor freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/5-gallo...wer-94282.html

I'm looking for something with either a LOT of suction or a very tiny tip for the little cracks between plastics in the interior.

The tiny end on this one looks useful.

I need one too. I haven't vacuum my car yet, and I've owned it for 5 months lol.

Eureka handheld on Amazon is amazing.

I have a couple:

and

The Rigid unit feels like it has double the suction - very strong. The Vacmasters form factor is much better though as it hangs on my wall and has a longer hose with more accessories and also a remote on/off switch. Although i must say NEVER leave your house with the remote enabled. I've come home to the vacuum on due to some type of RF interference from the neighbors.

I like my ShopVac vacuum. I bought it at Home Depot or Lowes a few years back for something like $50. Does the job.

frslee 04-02-2014 01:07 PM

Use local carwash. Their vacuum is pretty powerful for a Dollar!

I almost got that but decided not to since the extension was a little short.

Went with this instead, figured for the price it would get the job done.

I picked this up when it was $60. Good suction but really loud.

We use this little shop vac at work to clean electronics - http://www.lowes.com/pd_215726-20097...28&CAGPSPN=pla - and I ended up buying one for my own use, has plenty of suction and the blower function is pretty nice. They also sell a "Shop-Vac Micro Cleaning Kit" with a bunch of small nozzles and extensions including ones with brushes on the end.

FWIW, haven't had issues with the extension, it's got a bit of give for stretch and the vacuum itself is fairly mobile inside the car. You'll need a nice extension chord for the outlet though.

Yeah I've heard the battery is pretty weak.

I just picked up a Stanley 5 gal 4.5hp from Amazon for $44.

If you want a great vac for around $100 look up the Metro Vac N Blo.

Ah yea sorry bad joke! In all seriousness it gets solid reviews on Amazon and i've been quite happy with my Dyson vac here as well.

dem00n 04-02-2014 07:21 PM

We have a fullsize Dyson at home, it's better than any shop vacuum I've owned before. Though it doesn't have such a large pipe diameter as a shop vac for big pieces, or able to take up water. It's really good. And you can even use it in the house without your wife yelling at you.
