What would you consider an adventure trip in your FRS/BRZ?

I am curious how far/ foreign any of you would be willing to drive your cars? The BMW road bike guys have rallied pretty much to every corner of north/ south america. If one day there were a large rally planned, where would you be willing to drive to?

ZetaVI 04-01-2013 07:20 PM

I'd be willing to drive to Miami from NY.

nbafandan 04-01-2013 07:22 PM

already drove from Niagara Falls to CT and would do it again :D

I don't think Route 66 is complete anymore is it?

Tanuki 04-01-2013 07:25 PM

I am thinking of maybe a run to Costa Rica or Panama.

SkitterSkotter 04-01-2013 07:32 PM

I've already taken my car on a 1,500 mile road trip. It was pretty awesome romping on some deserted roads in Wyoming and Idaho...also had to keep a keen eye out.

The car is pretty good on road trips, though I wish it got a bit better mileage...I also did it with my muffler delete. For those doing a long trip, I suggest you install the standard muffler.

Tanuki 04-01-2013 07:40 PM

I drove my first FRS from Salt lake city to the grand canyon, then to LV and back to Utah. I think it was around 2k miles? Car gets good mpg's though. What do you consider bad?

Anthonytpt 04-01-2013 07:48 PM

I'm planning to drive up to Big Sur, CA via Pacific Coast Highway.

Zaku 04-01-2013 07:52 PM

Actually to do a diagonal might be fun too from like Washington to Florida. Or Maine to California.

finch1750 04-01-2013 08:09 PM

Did someone say FT86club Cannonball Run? :burnrubber:

Takumi788 04-01-2013 09:13 PM

Headed from Central NY to Myrtle beach in mine in 3 weeks (14 hr drive) and driving it there is the part im most excited about.

Mandy 04-01-2013 09:19 PM

Perhaps I'm an oddball, but I don't like highway driving. Droning on for hours and hours in a straight line bores me, and it's not what I bought this car for. It's not a GT car, and so I wouldn't want to use it for touring, with BeSpoke I'd probably find myself in an ocean, or the back of another car.

that sounds like a great idea.

ThePoet 04-01-2013 10:33 PM

Given enough time and resources, I'd love to drive all the way down to Buenos Aires and back... But not in this car. Like someone above me said, it isn't a GT car. Not something I'd want to drive in a straight line for too many hours on end.

OjiGeorge 04-02-2013 12:10 AM

I just got back yesterday from doing this in 4.5 days. 4500 mi

13 FR-S Veteran 04-02-2013 09:56 AM

I did Ontario Canada to North Carolina a couple years ago in my Matrix....i'm hoping to repeat it again this summer in my FR-S.

MVJ1975 04-02-2013 10:00 AM

I've done the cross-US from PA to CA on I80 several times. It's mind-numbingly boring, especially through the Midwest. Not exactly a scenic trip.

Oh, and I did it in an MX-3 with 88hp, crank windows, and a tape deck, so I don't want to hear any whining about how the FR-S isn't a good road trip car. Compared to the Mazda, it's heaven.

NOHOME 04-02-2013 11:30 AM

My NOHOME moniker harks back to the two years when I literally lived out of the trunk of a 1990 Miata criss-crossing North America to see what was around. Never really gave it a thought that it was unusual to drive a new car anywhere.

The FRS is more of a GT than a true "sports car" and hence much more civilized on a long drive. Other than the road conditions that you are going to find in some places south of the Mexico/US border, I cant think of a reason not to drive it anywhere anytime.

Scenic Driver 04-02-2013 12:41 PM

I'd drive anywhere if it was a good trip.

I've done trips to drive the best roads in the east. I also organize & lead 1 day and 5 day road trips for TT drivers.

Pics from my trips: http://public.fotki.com/esokol/

Here's an article from the last 5 day TT event that I did: http://audiworld.com/news/12/tteast-12/

Trashed675 04-02-2013 01:06 PM

Grants Pass, OR to Brookings, OR to Reedsport, OR to Astoria, OR(for some Goonies sight seeing) to Everett, WA, then back down I5 back to Grants Pass. Just over 1,000 miles. HWY 101 up the coast was TONS of fun, but I5 was, well... I5.

Tanuki 04-02-2013 04:31 PM

Thanks for the great responses. The car is fine for a long trip in stock form. I will probably throw my stock suspension back on before I make my run to Costa Rica, but I could definitely handle the drive. I have done multiple Salt Lake to San Diego trips on bullet bikes, taking a longer trip in a car is cake. I even drove my classic mini from Spokane Washington to Salt Lake in one day averaging 50mph.

I am a trooper though.

LeeMaster 04-02-2013 04:34 PM

I would drive to Clearwater or Miami from Minnesota, maybe one day....

Tanuki 04-02-2013 04:38 PM

I still really want to try this route out:
http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...85160280_n.jpg

I am guessing around 32mpg on average, so that would be around 184 gallons of gas. So 14 Tanks of gas to get there and back. Fuel is around $4/gallon, maybe a bit cheaper and less pure over the boarder, but still you will be around $750 in gas. Still cheaper than flying ;)

f0rge 04-02-2013 05:02 PM

I've always wanted to make the trip from Toronto, Canada to Laguna Seca, not just in this car but my previous car as well.

I've done Toronto to Miami before, about 3000 miles round trip, but Laguna is almost 3000 miles ONE WAY. Will probably never happen.

Frost 04-02-2013 06:02 PM

Your selections don't allow for Canada to the US and back up. Some of the best driving roads are out in Eastern Canada (I'm talking PEI and New Foundland) and Western Canada (Rockies!).

My bucket list involves going from PEI through Ontario, down into NY and crossing the US (middle of Canada is boooooring) and then go up into BC and then into Alberta and then swing back down to US and back to the Ontario (where I currently reside).

valdayin 04-02-2013 08:08 PM

This summer, my best friend and I are taking a road trip to visit our friend that lives in Ottawa, ON, Canada.. Its going to be a 17hr drive from my house in Georgia :)

wallace03 04-02-2013 08:23 PM

Is OP aware of what is going on in mexico? El savador use to be bad as well, idk if it still is. Not to mention driving in those countries will take some getting use to if you havn't driven there before, especially in the big cities. I hope that i can road trip in my car soon, it would be perfect if you're going with one other person. Thinking about driving up the east coast or west coast this summer, either should be fun.

I drove from south Texas to Bar Harbor, Maine in my Mini a few years ago, side tripping to the Tail of The Dragon, then upstate New York and back in the fall. Plan to repeat the trip in my FR-S soon...

Tanuki 04-03-2013 02:04 PM

It is crazy to see everyone's ideal road trips. Any specific things you want to see along the way? I lived in El Salvador, so I was just thinking driving back may be more fun than flying, but who knows what is realistic.

whaap 04-03-2013 02:18 PM

My type of adventure trip is a carry-over from my motorcycling days. What I do is throw my duffle bag in the back of my car and take off for any where from 3 to 5 days. Most of the time I know where I'm going. There have been times I've left home not sure whether I was going to turn right or turn left till I got there. A lot like the upcoming meet this June in Las Vegas. I'll stretch it out a little by spending one night on the road before I get there and another night on the road coming home.

bcj 04-03-2013 03:03 PM

That sounds intense. Total mileage? One way or round trip?
