Hankook Ventus RS3... I have a 200TW RS3?
 

I was inspecting the tires on the BRZ, and noticed that they were labeled 200TW...

Conveniently, I've been way off pace since these tires were put on the car, but that could just be an excuse. Anyone else have RS3 labeled 200TW?

This is a 225/45/17.

I assume this was done to make the tire more attractive to the racing bodies that demand a 200+ TW tire (Pro Touring, Chump, soon SCCA Solo), as the new tires coming out all conveniently seem to be 200TW - Z2, Rival, RE11A, etc.

Tire rack lists 140 for all sizes of R-S3.....

I spoke to someone inside Hankook last year when SCCA announced the plan for 200TW requirement in RT*. They began rebranding plans for R-S3s then (they assured me I'd be able to have 200TW R-S3s for 2013). I assumed they scrapped that plan once the change was rescinded but I've seen them trickling into people's hands lately so I guess they went ahead with the change.

Other members have noted getting these too. Someone in an autocross thread recieved 2 140s and 2 200s

This isn't a joke. Compound/tread is the same. Just a change to conform with SCCA changes

I've been 2-3s off pace everywhere since this set was put on... wondering if there was a compound change. A few other people noticed I was seriously off pace too.

I think yesterday was off pace in general. I think they changed it to 200 just so they can compete with all the other tires in autoX.

The good news is we can use RS3's and take less points for competitions.

Yeah, I just looked at the website and found it. I'm amazed that that is real.

On the upside, at least you know the tires are fresh and haven't been sitting in a warehouse for a long time. :P

We got 16 tires in here for One Lap and some testing. All are 140TW. (255/40/17)

I have a fresh set... but they were bought last year they are sitting next to the dryer so I cannot compare.

I have had 3 sets now. the first set was missing the little flames on the side and the other two were not. Moot point but just spewing out random thoughts now.
