Losing Control.
 

I've been looking at potential cars i may buy in the future and many of them have Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Active Traction Control and whatnot. These are systems that i would want to disable for track days and whatnot. If there is no button to override, would it be effective to simply pull the fuse to the systems, provided the fuse isn't shared with any other (vital) systems.

I read in a Grassroots Motorsports magazine article that they had to do that to their Ford Fiesta they were tracking. (And they said that all kinds of warning lights on the dash were illuminated, but that their lap times improved.)

Well you kinda answered your own question, you can disable it by pulling out the fuse but of course other systems in the ECU could be shut off and affected as well

Map what systems will be affected and see if you need them.

Of course some cars have "tunes" where they can turn off said systems, but they MIGHT always be off unless you put the car to stock ECU or upload another tune.

But of course, track your car stock first and see if you really wanna to disable only those driver aids. No one likes to crash into walls.

Some modern cars will also disable ABS when TCS or Stability Fuses are pulled. No ABS can be problematic on the the track (and def. on the street), assuming you don't have experience driving cars without it. Nobody wants flat spots on their tires!

I would closely look into what systems are defeatable on the cars you're interested in. I would hate to buy an awesome car and then be stuck with TCS/Stability on permanently...

You can disable all aids on the twins.

Full traction control disable, and by doing the pedal dance the braking aids are off as well.

this was a huge turn off for me and VW lineup, not that it would have really made a difference tho. chuckles.*

To turn off all driver assist: with the car running, in neutral, ebrake up, you just hold down both the "vsc sport" and tcl button at the same time for about 5-6 seconds. The dash indicators for them will flash and you will see the lights remaining for "trac off" and the skidding car with "off" under it.

The vsc light disappears.

Or just hold down the tsc button for 5 seconds at any time? I haven't had it come on since I started doing that

I think the idea of looking for cars that allow you to easily turn it off is the way to go. Aren't all new car required to have TC/VSC?

The cars i'm talking about are small hatchbacks. Hyundai Accent hatchback, Mazda2, Ford Fiesta, Kia Rio5, Kia Forte Hatchback, Hyundai Elantra Touring/GT.
