No maf no start?

Im waiting on a maf housing from treadstone performance and i am wondering if my car would start without a maf hooked up. I know my vdub would but would run rich. I would run the car without boost obviously with the wastegate open.

No idea. I could run mafless on my big turbo 1.8t

Just turn it on for a second. Might not turn over. Make sure your ventilated. All I can tell ya

If you disconnect the MAF the car should revert to speed-density as I think it has a MAP sensor, or Alpha-N if everything is completely fubar

If it's like a KA24DE, it'll idle fine but not run with any load on the engine.

It idles good, crazy smell in the garage now from all the new stainless piping. Had a coolant leak, fixed allready. Also check my oil feed but almost seems dry... Ill check it out tomorrow

Car has a pretty complex sd system .. Should run fine with no MAF

If it has a good SD system, why does MAF placement make such a big difference in AFR on aftermarket intakes? Does it rely primarily on the MAF unless there's an issue with it?

Thanks @Visconti as soon as i get my stupid maf housing im ordering my tune! I just cant wait

Most cars with MAF/SD rely primarily on the MAF except during rapid load transitions. The MAF tends to be more accurate (if properly calibrated), but SD responds to changes much more quickly.

SD relies on MAP and/or oxygen sensor?

Speed Density relies on MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and IAT (Intake Air Temperature), from which it calculates density, checks engine speed, then looks up the result on the Volumetric Efficiency table stored in the ECM to determine fuel delivery.

If it's in closed loop, it will adjust fuel trim based on A/F sensor feedback. Not sure about the 86, but most cars are open loop at idle and wide open throttle.
