and if you were going for a long road trip this might help you save from bugs, stone chipp etc.
|
barf
|
That is true, i'm at 16K and the front is covered from stone chips.
I should post a pic, but i don't want to scare anyone... |
Disgusting. I'd rather have stone chips.

If you want that look and want to protect your paint, plasti-dip the bumper. If you just want to protect your paint, get a clear bra that won't rub and flap against your paint. |
Those things will save your front from bugs & stone chips but not from any scratching or abrasion or dirt buildup from underneath the material.
|
There's this thing called clear bra. Best of both worlds. No ugly kinky leather shit for your car's face, and no stone chips.
|
I dunno it be kinda cool to see one with a mask, not that ther are used anymore these days since clear bra is easier and cost less.
|
We should all just trade our cars in and get Neons with bras like that. That'd be fantastic.
|
Definately not worth the abrasion damage that comes with it.
Not to mention when they get wet. I've seen many cases of clear coat discoloration. I learned my lesson on a round trip from Santa Ana to SanDiego in 97. Morning after I removed the bra to find sand embedded in the backing fabric and it scratched the shit out of my lower front fender and bumper, all the way around. |
Clear bra film. And find someone who is good at it. My shop uses a local guy that does all high end cars. All edges wrap around instead of coming up 1/8-1/4" short, and no partial hood/fender BS. Full panel wrap and around the edges. Nobody ever knows its there. I have had my personal gti bumper wrapped for 3 years and about 30k miles with venture shield film. Zero chips or marks, still looks flawless. My frs has a full bumper/hood/fenders/headlights. Looks and works amazing. We used the new Xpel film and its great

I've got the OEM clear bra shit EVERYWHERE. In a perfect world, I wouldn't need it but it's not a perfect world. Doesn't detract from the looks *too* much. If I had a vinyl bra like that I would literally kill myself and make it look like a murder so my wife would be taken care of financially but I wouldn't have to drive around with that stupid shithead black thing on the front of my car.

Who covers up these days? Everyone knows it's always better raw.
|
Rock chips and bugs just means you drive your car. Tiny badges of honor.
|
I've used bras before on my cars, but only on road trips and never for any length of time. Very few chips.

Just buy one of these and you will not care so much.

i would not want a full front covering one, id try the ones that go on the hood only.
i like the one on my xrs: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8521/8...367c856a_z.jpg matrix xrs streetlight by jszumita, on Flickr edit, dont think it would look good on an 86. |

That's hideous. Anybody who puts one of these on their 86 deserves to get their car repo'd.
|
Can plastidip go right on the bumper then peel off later without any damage? I was considering red over the stock red, or black.
|
its a better idea to get a full bra for long trips to car shows and stuff maybe instead of the ugly blue masking tape people use.. only if you take it off right away when you each your final destination
|
lets see some pictures of stone chip damages. keep reading that the paint is thin

Leather bras should have died in the 80's along with louvers and curb feelers.

I'm not driving though, riding in my buddies r32 |
I'm getting some fuzzy dice to hang from my rear view mirror. Then, and only then will I consider the nose bra.
