OHLINS DFV COILOVERS FOR BRZ / FR-S

While we have our own coilovers almost ready here is an offering from Ohlins in the upper/mid range of available track day/street systems.

We have 2 sets in our possession.

So sexy. I keep telling myself you don't need coilovers, you don't need coilovers. It is getting hard to resist.

TouchMyHonda 03-29-2013 03:06 PM

God those are what I really would want. The order of suspension want is Ohlins, Tein, and Stance. Can you PM me a price on the two systems with specs on them as well? THANKS!!!!

How do these ride/handle vs. the JRZ's that you've tested vs. the expected setup of the RCE Tarmac coilovers?

Also, I understand that they're softer sprung than the premium TEIN offerings (SRC) and focused more on street. I am interested in more of a street coilover with better trackability, but the ride has to be good or better than stock. Does this sound like the right fit? Or am I better off waiting for the RCE coilovers/going with JRZ?

If you could PM me a price on the Ohlins shipped to CA that'd be great. Thanks.

Keep in mind that GOOD shocks dampen VERY well and are NOT stiff on the street and exhibit awesome chassis control EVEN with stiff springs. With that said the Ohlins I have owned and tracked in the past were awesome on both street and track with .......HIGH rates. Something most JDM dampers cant do because of the way they are valved.

JRZ does this very well. KW's do this well also. Each of these manufactures "skins the cat" in a different way.

The intro on the T2's is nearly half the price of these and the JRZ. So there are price points to consider.

SkullWorks 03-29-2013 05:03 PM

Honestly though who shops Ohlins, Stance and Tein....that's like looking at aston martins, Daewoos, and used hondas saying you are comparison shopping...

I will never own another set of Tein's and will never own a set of stance's (unless the crap comes on a shell i buy...that can't be helped ya know....)

These are all of the sex

Nice! Will you be cutting the dust boots according to the instructions or leave them as they are? I'm on the fence as I don't see how they can protect the piston if its exposed, but then other hand I'm worried the dust boots could bind on big bumps.

Just seems awkward they didnt supply correct fitting boots.

RehabJeff86 03-30-2013 03:15 PM

Oh mother of god, i need a set stat!!

Doborder 03-30-2013 05:43 PM

Nice
Once I get used to the car on the track, I'll consider these

We found with the Impreza chassis not to lower the car too much and its not an issue. They suggest ( I agree) that the 15mm lowering works well. I'll see how things work at that before going to 20mm.

Can you guys put these on scales vs stock as well? I would but don't have a scale at home.

SubaSteve 03-31-2013 02:32 AM

Finally someone started taking pictures with a decent camera. Vendors use this as an example and stop taking photos with potatoes.

Im truly not being a **** in saying this but at this point when one is trying to benefit from good dampers I dont feel weight difference matters. (WITHIN REASON)

But if you say to me "hey just for shits and giggles , Im curious what it weighs".....then I can understand it.

With that said, I will weigh it Monday.

Since you only have 2 sets does that mean you wont be trying them out on the csg car? If you do throw them on at some point I would love to go for a ride lol.

I have no idea what CounterSpace Garage has to do with anything RaceComp does.

This has been my exact experience and I am now an Ohlins fan for life. My Evo X rode BETTER than stock on the street even with spring rates almost triple that of stock. Track performance was awesome.

Of course and agree in this aspect. and i already have my dampers so weighing them is a moot point. But I'm still curious so i can keep a log off how many kgs I've shaved (or added) off the car.

Racecomp Engineering 03-31-2013 11:44 PM

and that I get. I understand. I have seen some ask that question about the craziest of things. So I reacted ****-like.

Overland'n'5thGEN 04-01-2013 04:48 AM

I am very intrigued! Price to 94583?

The looks of the construction on these look like something off the space shuttle.

I have to say that front shock is beautiful.

It truly is a work of art. These things are really nice. You've got to see em in person to really appreciate them.

in the process of doing my own coilover cover DIY to custom fit these. Already have some materials which include light 200 denier (water and mold resistant) cloth with weatherproof velcro and shock/bungee cord. Pretty easy to take on and off with coilovers installed.

Following this guide btw. Credits to him
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2330815

What are your thoughts of running them on track in terms of cooling issues? The material is breathable.
