Moar power with simple bolt-ons & ECUTek tune @ OnPoint Dyno

http://www.onpointdyno.com/?p=2886

Anyone looking for more power with simple bolt ons & a tune on the dyno, look to OnPoint Dyno.

Sasha is a multiple Canadian champion & a well known racer in the tuner community.

His base tune was with the non resonated Milltek Catback (already making about 5hp gains: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...lltek+modified

So +25hp from the AEM intake + ECUTek tune from OnPoint dyno, and I'm sitting at +30hp from stock.

The difference is spectacular. Tonnes of response and a power gain you can actually FEEL!

Give Sasha @ OnPoint Dyno a shout if you're looking to make some nice gains!

I have a few questions:

1. how much does it cost to get up +30hp ?

2. Is the ECUTek tune reversible? meaning if i want to put the car back to stock can i do it?

Thanks

Yes you can reflash to stock any time.

I have a Magnaflow catback and a silicone intake tube with a drop in filter. I'm wondering how much above stock it could be with a tune.

What does he charge for the tune? Do you have to buy the cable or will be do the flash and subsequent tweaking on premises?

@l8apexr I would like to know as well.

Yes, the tune is reversible.

OnPoint Dyno are now offering FR-S and BRZ Ecu Reflashes to anyone in the GTA, please email: sanis@onpointdyno.com to inquire about package pricing including the ECUTek licence and custom dyno tuning!

Just some thoughts... this is substantially higher gains than anyone else has been able to get from an intake and tune alone, and I think it's because they gave you corrected numbers and the correction factor on your baseline might be wonky.

155whp with an exhaust is a very low baseline, and 180whp with an intake, exhaust and tune is on the high side on pump gas.

If you check the other popular tunes out there, FA20 club has the highest advertised gains with their stage 2 tune + intake package and they only claim about 22whp.

Not knocking their tuning, or that you did in fact get gains, but the numbers don't line up with what others have been able to do except on e85. I think it all comes down to corrected vs uncorrected numbers, and correction factor(s) being applied.

Case in point, the article on your car in modified magazine stated 170whp after the exhaust. I'd believe a 10whp gain from an intake and tune, so maybe it's only the baseline with onpoint that isn't in line.

l8apexr 03-29-2013 09:48 PM

OnPoint's dyno is diff then the dyno used in the original Modified article.

And yes, while there may or may not be correction factors being applied (I'd have to check w Sasha on that) the gains are an apples to apples comparo. So it really is a 25rwhp gain w the ECUTek reflash + aem intake over just a Milltek catback.

Sasha's done some pretty amazing things. He knows more about tuning then I can fairly comment on, so I'll inquire w him before posting more.

That would imply that your car is making 195whp on pump gas on the other dyno, which I'm sorry just isn't happening.

I'm not knocking him, but if no one else can come close to that, then something smells funky.

IMO, the correction factor one your onpoint baseline is way off, which is overly inflating the gains. I would believe +10whp from intake and tune, but not +25whp.

l8apexr 03-30-2013 02:26 PM

I think truthfully, more runs with various other cars are required. But if your're really skeptical, then this isn't for you...

If you're curious, I'd send Sasha a note to find out how +25rwhp is possible.

wparsons 03-31-2013 10:38 AM

Spend any length of time in the engine/tuning section on here with very seasoned tuners and you'll see why I'm skeptical.

I made similar comments to Sasha on FB, offering to let him run a couple baseline and flashed runs on my car if he wanted (then remove the tune after) but he didn't seem interested.

l8apexr 03-31-2013 12:20 PM

:)

Its only a couple hp above what the engine/tuning section on here is able to achieve.

I think that comes a lot from how much Sasha played with cam timing.

Gonna be fun at the track with this new tune!

The 180whp is a few above what anyone else is getting on pump gas, the 25whp with an intake and tune is about double what anyone else seems to be getting.

Again, all I've said is that either the baseline correction is wrong, or the final correction is wrong. I still stand by the baseline correction being the issue here. I would believe the ~10whp gain from the modified magazine dyno with an intake and tune easily.

l8apexr 04-01-2013 06:36 PM

25whp was not peak to peak, but gains after the stock peak.

On the graph you can see the power correction between the two runs is less than 0.2%: 0.9852 vs 0.9846

The biggest bonus was the elimination of the majority of the “dip”. There is no "lag" anymore and the power delivery is even more linear.

Also, the fact that there were no power gains at all at 5000rpm – if it was a correction factor issue, the engine would have made more power across the board, with the SAME shape.

colHolm 04-01-2013 06:58 PM

I just drove the car, and I've gotta say - the biggest change is the "dip". Sasha did a great job of mitigating the feel of lack of torque through the revs. Pulls from low down feel much smoother as you accelerate.
